Darlyn Point of View "If you take everything as prescribed, eat healthy, you should be back to work in no time." I say to my patient. "Thank you so much Dr. Ravenwood." She says, and I smile. "For the tenth time Stella, call me Scarlette." I say, giving her a smile before leaving the room. After ten years, I am in my third year of residency, two more years to go. I attended Brown University whe I left San Francisco ten years ago, and there I spent four years getting my BsC. From Brown, I went to Rush University, here in Chicago, where I spent another four years in Medical School, and now, I am here, in Northwestern Memorial Hospital, for my Residency. I glance at my scrubs, as I head to the restroom to freshen home, I have been here for almost twelve hours, and I feel ready to faint, but ten years of practice has strenghtened my resolve. I catch my reflection in the mirror, and smile, my short fringe hair, with my eyes that never seem to dim, no matter what. Over the course of ten years, I have grown, gotten more beautiful, and stronger. In my jeans and turtleneck, I walk out of the restroom to run into my Attending - Dr. Micah. "Good day, Doctor." I smile, keeping the way he makes me uneasy at bay. "Scarlette." He smiles, and I bristle. "It's Dr. Ravenwood." "Of course, pardon my mist -- " He is cut off by my phone ringing, I smile at him, then walk away, picking the call, smiling truly when I see it's Mom. "Mother." "Daughter." She says, and I grin at the jovialness in her voice. "How is my favorite Doctor doing?" I smile, and begin the stroll to my Apartment in Gold Coast which is just few minute from the Hospital. "Tired after working twelve hours." I say, and she signs. I am grateful for my parents, they foot a lot of my school bills, and Caspian got me my Apartment, but I try not to worry them, to pay them back, and make them proud. "You should come home, Darlyn." She says, and I freeze, because no one has called me that in ten years, and San Francisco stopped being my home a long time ago. "Mom," I say. "Please," She urges. "Raven is due in a few days, I want you there, want your niece to meet you, that will be my first grandchild, and the Family must be complete." "Will Mag be there, Isn't he in Japan?" I frown, stepping into the elevator. I have four sublings - Magnus, Caspian, Raven and Dahlia. Mag is a Journalist for the New York Times, and he is always moving around, being sent on assignments. Caspian is a Businessman in one of the most succesful companies in New York. Raven is an Accountant, and she lives at home, with her Husband, while Dahlia is a literay agent at Harper Collins. Despite our background and gifts, we made our own lives, became something of ourselves, and I've never been prouder. "He is coming too. Come home, Scar." She says, and I sign entering my Apartment, just as a call comes in from Axel. "Mom, we will talk later, Axel is on the line." I say. "Okay, come home baby girl." She says, and hang up. I fall on on the couch, and pick up Axel's Facetime. "Xel." I grin at my bestfriend. "Scar." His face mirrors mine. He has been my bestfriend since I was ten, I turned thirty last week. "Take your sick days, I am coming to spend a week with you." He says, and I see his pristine office behind him, He is a Lawyer in California. "You don't have to, I am coming home." I say, and he freezes. "Dee?" He frowns, and my heartstring tugs. "I am sure." "Well, f**k me." He says, and I laugh. "I will book you a flight now, can't wait for everyone to be stunned by you." _____ I remove my headphones as the plane lands. There's a knot in my throat, it's anxiety, God, I hope he is not around, I hope I do not see him, I don't know what I will do. "Hi," I hear, and look at the seat behind me, where a man is sitting, staring at me with odd green eyes, he seems familiar. "I am Constantine." He says with a smile. "I'm Dar -- Scarlette." "First time in San Francisco, Scarlette?" He asks, and I scoff. "No, this is my home." "Well, that makes one of us. I am here to see a friend of my Father, pass across a message." He smiles, and I nod, it sounds cryptic, but okay, I would probably never see this man again. "You should know him." He says, and I frown as we walk down the aisle. "Luca Manhattan." I freeze "Yes, I know him, he is a friend of my Family." He stares at me for some moment then smirks "Then your Family will see me soon." I watch as he pull out his phone, see the tattoo on his arm, an arrow "Nice tattoo." I say, but he says nothing, just smirks, like he knows something I don't. I get my bags, knowing Axel is waiting for me, I turn to Constantine and see he is no longer there, I could have sworn I felt him at my back seconds ago. "Scar!" And there is my bestfriend. _____ I stare at my Family and Axel, feeling so at peace. I have missed San Francisco, missed the Pack. "Come, let's go see the Alpah." Dahlia says, and I nod, remembering Constantine. "Yeah, let's. I need to tell him something." I say. "Maybe you should rest a bit." Mom says, and I smile at her. "I am a Doctor, Mom, I am fine." and with that, Lia and I walk to the Alpha's place. "You okay Lia?" I ask, and she nods, I have known my sister for a very long time, enough to know when she is lying. "Here we are." She beams and I wonder what about seeing Alpha Luca is making her this happy. "C ome on." She tugs me inside the mansion, I freeze, because the person I see sitting on the Alpha's throne is not Luca but Asher.
