Anna returned to Evan’s house after speaking with Sarah and agreeing to the woman’s suggestion that she should come back. Anet and the others couldn’t believe Anna had returned to that house. The older woman approached Anna, who now looked fresher and clearly healthier. Anna smiled as she walked toward Anet and Rose.
“You…”
“Anet, I’m back. The doctor said I’m okay to go home, and I’ve decided to return to work!” Anet stared at her in disbelief, and Rose didn’t blink at all.
“Daebak! You’re crazy!” Rose came closer and flicked Anna’s forehead.
“Ow!” Anna rubbed her forehead, wincing.
“You… Oh my God, Anna, you seriously have guts. How could you come back after you were already…” Rose looked her up and down. Anna smiled and waved a hand in front of her.
“I’m okay, really. I’m fine!” Rose lowered her head and massaged her temples. Anet came closer and grabbed Anna’s shoulders.
“Are you sure? This isn’t something to take lightly, Anna. You need to understand that!” Anna let out a deep breath and nodded.
“Anet, I’m sure about my decision. I have to come back. I realize why I was given this job. I believe God chose me because I’m strong!” Rose shook her head at Anna.
“I think your head got knocked around too much when you were r***d, GI!” Anna laughed at that.
“You’re impossible!” Anet stared at Anna, still in disbelief. Why did she come back when so many women would be mentally and emotionally broken from a single r**e? How could this girl—this woman—be so strong and firm in her choice?
“Well, I don’t even know what to say. But for now, go rest in your room,” Anet said, unsure what decision to make. Intan approached Anna and gave her a warm smile.
“If that’s your choice, we’ll support you, Anna. You’re an amazing woman!” Intan hugged her, offering strength. Rose joined in, wrapping her arms around Anna too. Anet smiled at the three women in front of her.
Ganda arrived at Evan’s residence just as the sun was rising. He got a call from Anet that Anna had returned to work. She had come back early in the morning from the hospital. Ganda entered the house looking for Anna and found Anet in the kitchen, busy preparing breakfast for Evan.
“Anet!” She turned as Ganda called her name and walked toward him.
“You’re here already?” Ganda nodded.
“Where’s Anna?”
“She’s in her room. I told her to get some rest. What’s going on?” Anet asked, curious about Anna’s return.
“Why are you asking me, Anet? I only found out about this from you. I didn’t know Anna came back here!” Anet sighed and sat down at the dining table, holding her head. Ganda followed her, sitting across from her.
“Have you talked to Mrs. Mirna?” Ganda shook his head.
“Not yet. I’ll call her and Mr. Antonio.” Anet nodded in agreement.
“Tell them. Give her compensation after everything she’s been through. Don’t let her life fall apart any more than it already has. We don’t know what Mr. Evan will do when he sees her again.” Ganda exhaled heavily and nodded. Especially after their last conversation—Evan hated Anna so much, he didn’t even remember what he had done to her. Ganda lowered his head, tired of seeing Anna’s life turn out this way.
“Alright, Anet. I’ll talk to Mrs. Sarah and Mr. Antonio. Hopefully they’ll decide not to use Anna again.” Anet nodded in agreement.
**
Anna came out of her room after showering and feeling refreshed. She walked toward the kitchen but didn’t see Anet there. She frowned, glancing around the quiet kitchen. Then she looked up toward the second floor and frowned again. Anna walked toward the back kitchen, searching for Intan. She found her busy hanging blankets in the backyard. Anna walked up to her.
“Intan, where is everyone?” Intan looked at Anna and furrowed her brow in confusion.
“They’re inside. Didn’t you see them?” Anna shook her head.
“No, Anet’s not in the kitchen.” Intan walked over to check inside the house.
“Maybe she’s upstairs. Just take a rest. Maybe Ganda and Anet are taking care of Mr. Aiden.” Anna sighed, a little disappointed. She nodded and walked back inside. She looked up at the second floor, tempted to check on Evan. She felt guilty for giving him that crazy drug—even if Aiden had r***d her, Anna still felt sorry for him. She sighed and walked to the main room, where she ran into Rose, who had just finished working.
“Rose!” Anna called, making her stop.
“What’s up?”
“Where’s Anet?” Rose shrugged.
“No idea. I’ve been too busy working to ask.” Anna sighed, annoyed. Rose giggled at her expression.
“You’re something else.”
“Okay, okay, I think I saw Anet outside with Ganda. Try checking there. Why are you looking for her?” Anna didn’t answer and just walked off, leaving Rose behind.
“Anna!” Rose called out, annoyed. Anna turned back and stuck out her tongue, holding up her finger to tease her.
“Ugh, whatever.” Rose went back to her chores. Anna found Anet and Ganda in the side yard, watching the garden, which was overgrown with weeds. The gardener was also busy trimming the messy plants.
“Anet!” Anna called, making both of them turn. Anet looked at Ganda as Anna approached.
“Come here!” Anet waved her over.
“What’s going on? I was looking for you,” Anna said, glancing at Ganda.
“Anet, it’s almost noon. Why didn’t you wake me? I’m ready to work!” Anet shook her head slowly.
“Not yet. Just rest. You still need more time.”
“But, Anet—”
“Listen to her. You can’t go in there without our say-so. For now, it’s better if you stay in your room until Anet and I agree you’re ready to face Mr. Evan.”
“But I’m ready. I can do this!” Anna insisted. Ganda looked at her intently, surprised by her strength. Maybe her mind really had healed.
“Give us time. Once we decide, you can work again.” Anna stayed quiet, looking at Ganda. Why was it his decision? She thought she was working for the Antonio family. Still, she nodded obediently and returned to her room. Ganda and Anet watched her go. Anet sighed deeply, seeing how down Anna looked after Ganda’s words.
“Did I hurt her feelings?” Anet asked, turning to Ganda.
“Maybe we need to be firm with her. Contact them quickly and make a decision about Anna. I don’t want this to drag on any longer.” Ganda nodded and turned his gaze back to the garden.

That night, Anna woke up feeling thirsty. She reached for her usual water bottle but clicked her tongue when she realized it was empty. She got up from bed and headed to the kitchen, eyes half closed. Still half-asleep, she walked over to the water dispenser and began filling the bottle. As she waited for it to fill, she closed her eyes again. Once water started spilling over and wet her hand, she stopped, sipped from the bottle, and headed back to her room.
Anna froze when she caught movement from the corner of her eye near the dining table. She stopped in her tracks, opened her eyes wide, and turned around.
“Aaaaaa!” she screamed when she saw Evan sitting at the table, staring at her.
“M-Mr…!” Evan gave her a crooked smile.
“You’re here?” Anna blinked rapidly, fully awake now. Why was Evan out of his room, sitting at the dining table?
“Sir… Why are you—?” Evan smiled again, but it felt terrifying to Anna.
“Do you want to know why I’m here? Ganda hasn’t been locking my room these past few days. When I woke up, I really had to go, so I tried the door—and it wasn’t locked. I stepped out of my room, and that’s when I found you!” Anna felt her heart pounding fast. She glanced toward the dining table, where a full set of knives, spoons, and forks were neatly arranged. Why did she feel so afraid, as if Evan might suddenly do something weird to her?
“I just got back today, sir!” Evan chuckled softly.
“Ganda said you weren’t going to work here anymore. So why are you here now? Has that old woman finally managed to convince you to be hers?” Anna blinked in confusion at Evan’s words. She lowered her gaze, wondering if the “old woman” he meant was Madam Sarah. She fell silent, thinking hard in front of Evan.
“It’s not like that!” Anna lifted her head—only to be startled to find Evan standing right in front of her. He seemed fully aware and alert. He was speaking a lot more than she’d ever seen him do back when he was in his room.
“Whatever the case is, you will serve me!” Evan locked eyes with her, his gaze intense, while Anna’s eyes kept shifting nervously in fear. Then the man turned and walked toward the staircase. Anna watched him until he disappeared from sight. Her legs gave out beneath her, and she sank into the chair, trembling. Evan had truly scared her. She clutched the water bottle she’d brought with her, hugging it tightly until her fear slowly faded.
