Protectors of the Realm

Chapter 2

Anthony's POV

    As Nina gets out of the vehicle to head to class, I can't help but think that how distracted she's been. I wonder if she can pick up on the fact that Pheonix, Axel and I haven't been as open with her as we used to be.  I want to but the laws are tricky and things have to be done the right way.  Nina doesn't know about our world and it's crazy because our world as been around her her whole life.  I'm soon to become the Alpha of the Purple Rose Pack.  Phoenix and Axel, my bestfriends, are going to be the Beta and Gamma respectively.  Our parents hold the current positions.  The Purple Rose Pack has been around for centuries.  Our job is to protect the Royal Family of the human world.  Only the Alpha, Beta and Gamma are allowed to live in the castle as there job is to provide protection to the royal family. So how does Nina play into all of this?  Well, you've guessed it. She is the Princess of the Royal Family.  My parents along with Phoenix and Axels parents have been the guard to the royal family since Nina's Mom was born.  They also grew up in the castle.  Usually, the guards of the heir are born as early as 25 years before the heir is born so that they are ready to take over.  I should have taken over as the new Alpha when Nina was born and my parents would have continued to guard her parents until they died, but because Nina was born 2 years later, it was impossible for me to take over and so the Beta and Gamma had to take on the guardianship.  It's all so complicated. 

    As I pull up to the pack house, I mind link my Phoenix and Axel *Hey guys, I'm back. Meet me in my office* I needed to talk to them about our plan for this weekend because I feel bad because Nina's world is about to turn upside down.  As I walk into the pack house, Cindy comes up to me popping her chewing gum, looking as slutty as ever and tries to hug me.  I push her away. "Aww, what's wrong big guy, you look like you could use one of my special massages." she says.  I just look at her.  Cindy is the known pack w***e. She walks around wearing barely there clothing.  Thank goodness I have never slept with her or I would probably really be in trouble.  "It's nothing you need to worry about Cindy" I yell as I run up the stairs to the pack house.  I quickly run in the office and close the door behind me.  "Running from Cindy again?" Phoenix says.  He and Axel start laughing.  "Dude, she's crazy and never gives up" I reply.  "Anyway, we need to talk about this whole birthday weekend thing. Like I don't even know how to approach this with Nina, you guys have any ideas?" "Man, this is wild, has anything like this every happened in history?" Axel asks. "Na, man I don't think so, I've asked our parents and they are researching some stuff." I say.  No sooner than I say this, our parents walk in.  "Hello boys, you guys look so serious." My dad says.  I just rub my hands through my hair.  My mom comes up to me and gives me a hug. "Please tell me you guys have figured out something. I hate that Nina is in for a shock of a lifetime." I say. "Well that's what we came to talk to you guys about, that plus your mothers swear they could feel your frustrations." Phoenix's dad says. 

    "So, we found some ancient text in the royal library that discusses the possibility of a child being born that will be the master of both worlds. This child will have great powers given to her by the Moon Goddess that have never been seen before and will save both worlds." my dad says. I look around wondering if anyone else is as confused as I am. "Dad, that's all it says? It doesn't really give us much to go on." I say.  My dad just sighs shaking his head. "We are still looking and the King and Queen are also looking as well." Axel's mom says. 

    I just sit there thinking that if we can't find answers, are we getting ready to really change Nina's life and not have any clue as to why.  Oh Moon Goddess please give us a sign or some clue because this is crazy.  I look at Pheonix and he also looks to be deep in thought and poor Axel just looks lost.  This Saturday is going to be very interesting. It's Nina's 21st birthday and me and the boys turn 23.  I still don't understand how we have no answers to the situation at hand and we have only days to try and figure it all out. My mom gently pulls me out of my thoughts by placing a hand on my shoulder. "Tony, sweetie, we will figure this out. Even if we don't have all the answers by Saturday, we will come up with a plan.  Nina is like a daughter to me and the last thing I want is for her to be hurt but at the same time, we have been searching for answers since the day you boys were born and we haven't found anything yet.  Maybe, it's just time to stop looking for answers and just go with it." my mom says.  I look around and see that all our parents agree. "Have you guys spoken with Nina's parents about all this?" I ask. "Yes, son we have and they will be just as supportive to Nina and us through all of this as well. They are also still searching for answers as well." my dad responds. At this I get up I have to go and get Nina from school.
