“She’s back inside, should we proceed?” The mysterious man said into his phone, while staring at Kate who was being attended to by the household staff.
“No observe for now. I want to know the woman who was able to gain the attention of Julian Styles,” An unrecognizable voice sounded from the other line.
The next morning, Chloe visits Kate in her home. While in her bedroom, she recounts over the details of last night.
“Have you seen the news?” Chloe asked. “You are now the main topic on the newsfeed. What’s going on? You seem to have changed overnight that I can no longer recognize if you are the Kate I know or not.”
Kate sighed, staring at her friend who stared back at her with a worried and affectionate gaze. She wondered if she could tell Chloe about her past life, she didn’t want to scare her and she also didn’t know how Chloe would react.
Perhaps, when the time is finally right she will.
“Chloe, like I said before, there’s a lot you don’t know. A lot of things happened to me that changed my mindset and influenced my behavior and trust me,” She placed her hand on her shoulder. “I am still the Kate you know.”
Chloe nodded, seemingly still not convinced. “Then what about Nathan?”
At the mention of Nathan’s name, Kate’s soft expression hardened. Chloe noticed the shift of emotions in her eyes.
“What did Nathan do this time?”
“Chloe, there’s something you need to hear.”
…
The Blackwood’s Estate, Vaucluse.
“Bloody hell!” Nathan slammed his fist against the marble counter.
“Nathan, you can’t let go!” Nathan’s mother, Sienna, cried. “Arabella and I were humiliated today. Do you know what they were saying at Double Bay?! They laughed at us all because of that woman, Nathan!”
“Yes, Nathan. We couldn’t even raise our heads without being pointed at,” Arabella scoffed angrily. “You must teach that woman a lesson once you get married to her. I will make sure she washes my feet and I will make a show out of it!”
Nathan listened to all their complaints taking them all in, his body shaking with rage, his eyes blood shot. He had seen the news, the headlines were mocking him.
They called his family poor, too poor to afford the price he had been calling out and he had to rely on a woman for money. The most disgracing line he had read was Kate accepting Julian’s gift which was insulting not only to him but his family.
The whole Sydney laughs at the Blackwoods!
Nathan glanced at his father, Maxwell who hadn’t spoken a word since. Maxwell looked up at him with a blank expression.
“You want me to speak?” He raised a brow. “I have nothing to say but do your best not to lose the alliance with Kate’s family. I thought you had her under your control, if you really did, none of this would have happened.”
“Dad, I do. We all know that Kate worships the ground on which I walk on. She is obsessed with me!” Nathan retorted.
“Well, clearly not obsessed enough,” Maxwell replied, with a sarcastic grin. “I had warned you not to lose to her but not only did you lose, you lost to Julian! Julian? The city’s most notorious play boy and he even gave your fiancée a gift. And all these played right in front of you and you still claim you are in control? Tsk!”
“I will fix this father, trust me,” Nathan answered with a confident stance.
“You had better. Our family can’t afford to step on!”
…
The next morning, Kate arrived at the company accompanied by two bodyguards. She strided across the lobby exuding elegance with every step. The employees each stared, their eyes fixated on her, whispers filled the air.
“Oh my God, this is new. Miss Obsidian has never visited the company before!” An employee commented.
“Yes! I also heard that her father had once planned to give her the company before but she had rejected it claiming she didn’t have knowledge in business.”
Kate walked into the elevator and within minutes, she was on the first floor. She walked over to her father’s office, where he was buried in documents.
“Hello father,” She greeted with a sweet smile.
Harry looked up and was shocked at Kate’s sudden appearance. He thought she was unsure when she had promised to come help him manage the company.
“I’m here to work, can I please be shown to my office?” Kate asked, with a raised brow breaking the silence.
Harry blinked repeatedly and nodded. “Of course, of course. I am just surprised you came. I thought you were not sure of your decision so I didn’t make the necessary arrangements on time. I will inform my secretary to do that now,” he replied, picking the phone.
Kate pursed her lips and sat down on the sofa across from her father. She listened as he gave orders to his secretary. She hadn’t seen this dominating part of his father and she couldn’t help but smile as she watched him.
Who could have believed that she had robbed herself of all the good things in her past life such as spending time with her family all because of Nathan and he ended up killing them because of his selfish nature.
In this life, she will do whatever she can to make sure Nathan doesn’t even get to touch a strand of their hair.
“You came just in time for the shareholders meeting,” Harry said, diverting her attention away from her thoughts. “My secretary is working on improving a space for you so in the meantime you can attend the meeting with me so I can introduce you to them.”
“Alright father,” Kate replied, feeling nervous.
Harry noticed her countenance and smiled. “There’s no need to feel nervous, I will be by your side all through. Just prove to them that you are indeed capable of leading the company when I am not here anymore.”
Fueled by her father’s encouragement, Kate breathed out feeling confident.
