Kate stared at the text for a long time, biting on her lower lip thinking of the best possible response to his text. The best possible response?
She rolled her eyes. What could be the best possible response? Why was she overreacting over a little text! She inhales sharply as she typed.
“You never asked me for a picture, Mr Wades.”
She stared at the screen with anticipation, waiting for a response but none was forthcoming, what was she doing expecting a text from a man? He could be sleeping! She dropped her phone on her desk.
It wasn’t less than a minute later that a call came in. It was Justin. Her brows shot up in surprise. What’s this? Justin is calling her?
She chuckled slightly as she answered it on the seventh ring.
“Took a while before you could answer,” Came a husky voice from the other end.
“To what do I owe this call, Mr Wades?” Kate asked with a raised brow.
“I don’t like texting very much and I like to familiarize myself with people especially since you will soon be my wife.”
His wife.
Kate expected her skin to crawl at the mention of that but instead she felt butterflies in her belly. His deep, husky voice made her heart pound in it’s cage, goosebumps crept out from her skin.
“I never remembered saying yes to any prosposal from you, Mr Wades,” She replied after a brief silence.
“You are expecting a prosposal from me?” Kate imagined his brows shooting up. “But you, yourself prosposed to me remember?” He said with a light laugj which made Kate go red.
Now, he was using that as an edge over her. But, she didn’t have a choice! If it wasn’t Justin, she couldn’t think about anyone else at that moment.
“However, if it’s a prosposal from me you want, Miss Obisidian, that can be arranged. Goodnight and do not forget to send me a picture of the necklace on you.
“Wait—“
But before she could complete her speech, the call went dead.
Kate groaned softly, her mind spinning. What does he mean by ‘it can be arranged’? Was he going to propose to her?!
…
Obisidian Group PLC.
Kate was engrossed in the file she was going through. Her secretary stood beside her nodding incessantly as Kate gave out orders. A knock on the door soon interrupted the moment, Kate was forced to look up furrowing a brow as a delivery man walked into the office holding a bouquet of flowers.
“Miss Obisidian?” He called out respectfully, looking at the ladies in the office.
“Yes,” Kate gestured at him to come towards her.
He gave her the bouquet of fresh tulips. Kate instinctively brought them to her nose with a smile. These were her favorite flowers.
“Who sent these?” She asked, staring at him.
The lad smiled. “You can check the card to know. Please sign here.”
Kate signed her name and he scurried away. She sent her secretary out and glanced at the white card tucked carefully inside the bouquet.
It read; “You asked for a prosposal, Miss Obisidian and I am a man of my words. I aim to please, do well to honor my dinner invitation. The address is below, see you soon. P.S: Put on the necklace.”
Kate frowned slightly. He actually got her favorite flowers. What was he trying to do? She didn’t really mean that he should propose to her! She dropped the flowers in the trash can. Absolutely no way she would go to dinner with him.
She groaned. Maybe, she should have just faced everything all alone but deep down, she felt that she owed him. Glancing at the card, she sighed going back to her work.
The telephone on her desk rang.
“Hello, Kate here.”
“Kate, I need you in my office now. We have a problem,” Her father’s voice came from the other line.
Kate hurriedly saved her file, turning off her computer she was confused. What could have set her father off in such a manner?
…
“What do you mean by you can’t give my daughter a job? You gave yours a job in this company! Why are you being biased!”
Angry voices from inside the office threw Kate off the edge as she approached, making her brows knotted.
What was going on?
Without knocking, she opened the door and walked in. Her eyes gleamed with surprise, her lips twisted with an amused smile.
Seated in the office was her grandmother, her uncle and his adopted daughter. Her uncle had an angry expression on while her grandmother stared at her with disgust and as usual step daughter had a friendly smile on which made Kate scoff.
In her past life, Suzan had decieved her with such friendly gestures but now, she knew better.
Glancing at her father, she asked. “What’s going on?”
Harry sighed deeply before responding, “Gerald wants us to offer Suzan a job. Mother is also in support but Suzan has no qualifications to work here, at least Bryan, his son works here already.”
Kate narrowed her eyes. Seems it was going to happen again. Gerald and Helen had managed to presuade her father to let Suzan work in the company. However, it turned out to be the greatest mistake they could ever make.
They planted doubts in the minds of the shareholders, sold company secrets to competiting companies. They were one of the reasons why the company was being swallowed up with debts in her past life.
Now, that she’s here and armed with such knowledge. She won’t let what happened in the past repeat itself.
“Cousin, please try to understand,” Suzan began with pout, her eyes teary. “Father is only trying to make me become the better version of myself that’s why he and grandma brought me here. I won’t be of any trouble at all, but if you both insist that I can’t work here then I will leave and not bother you anymore.”
Kate snarled inwardly.
Trying to pull the pity card. Huh?
“Dad, give Suzan the job,” Kate said.
“What!”
