PROLOGUE My eyes fluttered open to the enthralling light from the high-ended window. Its drapes stylishly hung by its side with a luxurious rope. “Ugh, what the hell?” I rolled over to my right, turning away from the light that got into my eyes directly from the open window. I scraped up the bed sheet between my manicured fingers. Pushing myself up, I stared at the calm face of a man. “What?!” I instantly shrieked in shock and pulled back with instincts. “Matthew? On...on whose bed?” My eyes restlessly roamed around the bed, wondering what I was doing on the same bed with him. His lids shot open with force at the shriek of my voice, and his eyes fell restlessly on mine. “Vanessa?” He called silently, and from his face I could tell he was also in shock. “What happened between us?" I asked, hoping it was not what it seemed. It could very much have been an harmless sleep, who knows? “I don't know. u can't really...” His words were cut short by a sudden knock on the door. We both stared at the door and back at ourselves at the same time. “Who is it?" I asked silently like he was supposed to know. “How am I to know? This is my room, you need to hide.” He responded, quickly getting out from under the bed spread and off the bed. “Matthew?” the voice came from the other side of the door as the knock continued. “Hide. Now!” I picked up myself fast and scurried to the back of the standing wardrobe. “Ouuuu.” I felt a stinging pain between my legs that made me almost crumble to the floor. “Quick.” Matthew urged again. I got myself to the wardrobe and hid, trying not to focus on the pain between my legs that seemed to become more and more unbearable as I stood. I heard the match turn and then the door open to let the person in. “Good morning Matthew.” I heard a familiar voice, it was a female's. “What do you want?” He asked. “I thought we agreed to play nice. None of us really wants this. It's a mutual disagreement, you know?” She said to him. I recognized the voice immediately. It was my sister; my elder sister, Sophia. “Fine. But why are you here so early?” She sighed and replied; “I am searching for Vanessa. I thought she might be here.” “What do you mean by that?” “Cut the crap, Matthew. We both know there is something going on between you two.” She added with a tone of disrespect. “There is nothing between I and Vanessa, Sophie. I am getting married to you in a week time.” Matthew defended, without a wavering tone. “Right and that is exactly why you need to get your acts straight. Come down, my father wishes to discuss something important with you.” She finally shared. “Fine, I will be down in a minute.” He responded. “Learn to be smarter, Vanessa. Leaving your underwears lying around in my man's room is not advisable.” She called out to me with a snicker, before turning to leave. As I heard the door close shut, I collapsed to the floor, feeling extra weak. “Vanessa, are you okay?” Matthew walked over to me and crouched. “I am fine, I just feel a little uncomfortable.” I answered, staring at my ripped panties that laid on his bed. “Are you sure?” “Yes, Matthew but I need to go now.” “No wait. How did you get to my room? How did we end up together in the same bed?” He asked. “I do not know, but I cannot be here much longer. Besides,my father is asking of you.” I struggled to my feet and slowly picked up my stuff. “Vanessa...” He held on to my arm. “We will talk about this later, Matthew. I don't want to stay here longer.” I replied with a rude tone, before making my way out of his room and down the hallway to mine. “Vanessa...” I could hear him call for me, but I did not bother turning back. I closed the door and slumped unto my bed, the pain between my legs still hitting hard. “Vanessa?” I heard my sister vouce suddenly, and saw her walk into the room. Getting up quickly, I tried to cover up my bare thighs with my bed spread. “What do you want?” I asked with a glare. “Don't be like that. I am only looking out for you.” She bent forward and stated directly into my face. “You should be really careful not to attract attention, what do you think will happen if our parents find out you decided to take over my husband.” Her words came out in a thin, and almost silent voice that made me uncomfortable and pissed. “Be good now, okay?” She patted my cheeks and smiled, before leaving. Slowly and unconsciously, tears began to race down from my eyes. ‘Will this ever end?’ I asked myself.
