Chapter Two

1077 Words
Vanessa's POV Diego was never one to ask for money from me, he did not like the idea of staying friends all because of my dad's money, but he especially hated the thought of it. To hear him ask me to my face for money, I was shocked. “Look, I really don't think I have money to help. I will have to talk to my father about it, and see what he can do.” I responded, after a few minutes of silently watching him. “I am not too comfortable with you asking your dad, but you are basically the only option I have left to try. If nothing comes from you, then there is really going to be no hope left.” “I understand. I will see what I can do.” I could not bring myself to make a solid promise to him, because I would not be able to bear it if my father did not help, and Diego ends up losing his mother. *** “Father, I need a favor.” I hurriedly stormed into my father's study, interrupting his conversation with Sophia. “What is it, Vanessa?” My father asked, turning to stare at me. “Manners, Vanessa! Have some manners.” Sophia scolded in a loud tone. One that did not bother me one bit. I ignored her and replied to my father. “I need money. A huge sum of money.” “What?!” I heard Sophia's high rented exclamation again, but did not bother to give her face. “What do you need money for, Vanessa? I am very sure you have more than enough, at hand, to use.” “Not a small amount, Father. A huge amount. It is very important I get it today and right now if possible.” “You cannot just dash in here and demand for a high sum of money, out of thin air, Vanessa.” Sophia pointed out. “I did not come out of thin air. I live here, and this man is my father so stay out of this!” I gave a curt reply. “There is no need for you two to get into an argument. How much exactly do you need, Vanessa?” My father asked. I took a sigh and replied; “About 6000 dollars.” Sophia burst into laughter and stared at me with content nestled between her eyes. “I do not have that amount to give to you, Vanessa.” My father replied. “But I know you do. Please dad, just do this for me.” “What do you really need it for, Vanessa? You cannot need that much for your shopping.” “I don't need it for shopping father. It is something more important.” “And what is that thing that is more important, which would cost you 6000 dollars?” “Its Diego...” I took a pause and watched his face turn into a frown at my words. “That wretched friend of yours...” “Just hear me out, father. I know you don't like Diego, but he is in need of our help urgently. His mother is very ill and she needs 6000 dollars to undergo a major surgery to save her live.” I tried to explain sincerely, hoping that he would see reason to help. “I do not care about Diego, neither do I cre about his mother's illness. I cannot offer any help, Vanessa, and because you are my daughter, I am going to just let this slide. Do not bring it to me again.” He responded firmly, giving one of his look of finality before turning his attention back to Sophia. I slowly turned away from them and walked back to my room with slipped shoulders and poked pride. I had told Diego my father would help, but there was no lying about it. My father was not willing to offer any help and that was final. “Diego, I think we should...” I paused in my speech and walked into an empty room. Diego was no longer on my bed, the bed had been dressed neatly and the window closed slightly. I walked over to the bed and noticed a small paper on the bed side table. It read: ‘Sorry I bothered you at all, but I know your father will not give you such an outrageous amount to help me. Hopefully I will get the money elsewhere, do not get worried.’ It was from Diego, and I almost burst in laughter. How could I not be worried? He knew it was such an outrageous amount so where exactly did he think he would find such amount? I tossed the aper to the bed, and went over to my wardrobe to change into something, before dashing out of my room. I had to go see him, there was no way he could get 6000 dollars but maybe I could help him raise it fast. I opened my door and surprisingly saw an envelope lying in front of my room. I looked left and right, but there was no one in the hallway not even a servant. Who could have dropped it and what was even in it? I picked up the envelope and tore it open anxiously. To my utmost surprise, it was a signed cheque of 7000 dollars with a little note in it. It read: ‘Use this to help Diego and give him the thousand dollars left to take care of himself. This is not from your father, so do not go to thank him for this.’ I was shocked at the sight of the note and my hands instantly got cold. I shut the door quickly and looked at the cheque again to make sure I was not seeing things wrongly. It was really 7000 dollars from an unknown person. If it was not from my father, then it had to be from Sophia because she was the only one that hears about my request. Still, I could not quite believe it was her. She hated me and hated everyone affiliated to me, except our father. There was no way it could have been her, maybe some had overheard. It was all not clear, but one thing was; the one thing that I had to do. Give Diego the money for his mother's surgery
