NADINE
Shaking with a whirlwind of negative emotions, with tears blurring my vision, I stumbled onto one of the waiters, his leg tackled me and I felt myself falling to the ground.
“Can this day get any better,” I muttered within me, shutting my eyes and waiting for my body to hit the ground.
But then none of that happened, instead a pair of strong hands grabbed me, the person, obviously a man, pulled me to himself. Our bodies collided, my hands met his chest, which were surprisingly so sturdy.
His rich perfume clouded my senses. My eyes went up till it landed on my saviour’s face. I almost gasped at how ethereal he looked. His dark hair was magnificent. I didn't even realize I was staring and drooling, till I noticed his piercing blue eyes on me. For a moment I saw worry in his eyes, he seemed genuinely worried and kind of restless.
“Who is he? Is he worried about me?”
He cleared his throat and raised an eye brow.
“Is my body that comfortable,” he bent his head to my ears.
I cleared my throat and instantly separated myself from him, coughing, even though my throat wasn't itching.
The moment I got off him, the prying eyes of people reminded me of my predicament and the fact that I was half exposed.
Bowing my head in embarrassment, I tried to side step him to get away from here, but then he blocked my path
“You can't leave so easily after ruining this event,” he said.
“Who is he?” I wondered, yet again looking up at him.
“Angela!” He boomed.
“Boss,” my husband's mistress instantly rushed over to him, bowing her head.
“So, he is the CEO,” I thought within myself.
“I just caused trouble for Dean!” I instantly became engulfed in worry.
“What if Dean gets fired? Oh, lord, please don't let that happen….”
“Dean, the boss wants you,” Angela’s overly sweet voice resonated.
“Why is she dragging Dean into this? She and I caused the ruckus. He wasn't even here when she ripped my dress.”
I caught sight of Dean walking over to us. Not wanting to drag him into this, I made a decision to take the blame. At least, all they can do is embarrass me and send me away from here. They can't fire me, I'm not their employee. Dean can keep his job and reputation too.
“I caused the ruckus, I'm sorry,” I bowed my head at the assumed boss.
“I don't think I've ever seen your face here before,” the boss stared at my face as if trying to figure out who I was.
“I'm not your employee….”
“Shut up, lady,” Someone cut me off, it was Dean.
I turned around to signal him not to get involved and that I'll take the blame and leave the party.
“Do you know who she is, she is not a familiar face?” the boss asked Dean.
Dean walked over me and stood right next to Angela.
“I've never seen her before, today is my first time seeing her.” my husband denied me.
I gasped at his words.
“He….he just denied me,” I stuttered.
I stumbled backwards, too shocked to even utter a word. I lost my balance yet again.
This time, another guy caught me, I didn't know who he was, and I didn't care.
My heart was a mess. I could deal with Dean’s maltreatment and insults, but a public rejection like this was new and way above every other insult I've ever received from him.
I slowly raised up my eyes to meet his, but his entire focus was on his mistress, who stood there snickering at me.
“When did I get this pathetic,” tears rolled down my cheeks.
“Why does she keep falling? Trying to be Cinderella tonight?” Angela said aloud, causing the crowd to burst out laughing.
I felt humiliation and myself becoming one. I mean I've gotten tons of it tonight.
“Darian,” the boss called someone. I was numb and didn't care to look at him.
“He can get me arrested for ruining his events if he wants.”
I felt someone tying something around my waist, looking down at it, it was the guy I just stumbled into, he was tying his jacket around my waist to hide my torn dress and exposed skin.
“Get her some water,” the boss said yet again.
I let the guy lead me to one of the seats and made me settle down there, then handed me a glass of water.
I couldn't even drink it, I just wanted to go back home, coil myself in my bed and cry my eyes out.
“Drink up,” the guy urged me.
I downed the content of the glass in one gulp and rose from my seat.
No one offers water to someone they intend on getting arrested. I headed in the direction of the door, wanting to get away from all these. But then the words of my husband's boss stopped me dead on my tracks.
“Since you do not know this woman, it wouldn't be a crime if she spent the night with me, would it?” His baritone voice echoed.
I turned around swiftly
My eyes met Dean whose hands were wrapped around Angela’s waist, he signaled me to leave.
“I…I,” he stuttered, still signaling me to leave.
Staring at him with his mistress in his arms, I was fed up.
First, he denied knowing me, now he wants me to leave while he has a good time with his w***e.
“Heck no!”
I took a brave step towards his boss.
“What's your name handsome?” I smiled at him.
“Hendrix,” his eyes twinkled in amusement.
I held his tie, twirling it around.
“I can definitely accompany you for the night.”
“I think she is drunk,” I heard Dean say.
Anger bubbled inside of me, without giving it a thought, I grabbed Hendrix's tie, pulling his head downwards.
I slammed my lips on his.
