NADINE “You can't do that,”I immediately refused, waving my hands in disapproval. This man had already saved me from my despicable husband. He saved my honor last night. He has already done so much. Asking for more would be overstepping my boundaries. I was more than satisfied with what he had already done. “Why not?” He asked, smirking. He closed the distance between us, making me inhale his musky scent. My senses were instantly clouded, I was overwhelmed in a way I couldn't even explain. All thoughts of reason flew from my mind and I struggled to form a response. “B-because it isn't right,” I stuttered, dropping my gaze to rest on his chest. I was less intimidated this way. “You barely even know me. I mean we just met last night. I don't want to bite more than I can chew,” uttered softly. “Look at me,” he ordered in a deep voice I couldn't refuse and I slowly dragged my eyes from his chest to his eyes and they met with his blue ones. Those blue eyes sucked me in and for the next few minutes we were silent as our eyes exchanged silent words with each other. I was shocked by the intensity of his blue eyes and they seemed to flare brighter with the morning light and I couldn't bring myself to look away. He seemed to have noticed as he broke the silence first. “Nadine,” he called out slowly, making sure to emphasize every letter of my name. “Take a seat,” he gestured with his hand for me to go back to my seat on the bed which I did. I slowly sat on the bed and the soft mattress dipped with my weight. He took lazy strides across the room, then retrieved a chair from the corner and sat opposite me. I studied his actions like an art piece at the museum. He sat down and crossed his legs and rested his clasped hands on them. This man exuded this commanding aura that awed me. I knew he wasn't one that struggled with gaining the attention of the room because he was the attention. “You are my woman now,” he drawled in a husky voice. My heart skipped several beats at his possessiveness. My mind instantly wandered to the kiss at the party. No, I shouldn’t think of this now! This was an arrangement of convenience. I would be foolish to think this man had any feeling of love towards me. “I'm only giving you a position befitting as my woman, besides think of it as a way to have your revenge on your husband,” he stated. “But, I….That would mean I'm taking advantage of your kindness to me…It would be me, using you and your company,” I muttered, shaking my head in disagreement. “I can't do that.” “Shhhhh….” he hushed me. “I'm not complaining. I'm putting myself out here for you. Use me to your satisfaction,” he shrugged. “You're not…” I was about to refuse again but he cut me off. “There's no argument on this, my mind is already made up, I'm merely informing you,” he said with a note of finality. His commanding aura left no room for arguments. I kept mute, lost of words. My mind swirled with different thoughts. I shifted uncomfortably on the bed at his words. “Was I really ready to take on this position?” It didn't seem right but I didn't want to forego the chance of getting revenge on Dean, especially when the image of him burning red in anger when he finds out that I'm the new COO of the company keeps flashing through my mind. I also couldn't shake the feeling that accepting Hendrix's proposal would change my life and shake the foundation I had been accustomed with. It would mean more serious responsibilities. Was I ready for this? Even if it would be just for revenge, the position is a daunting one. And knowing myself, I knew I wouldn't just neglect my responsibilities simply because Hendrix told me to use him. I wasn't sure if I could do this, but I was tired of being helpless. If this was a chance to change my story, I might as well give it a try. Besides, I have already accepted to be his woman, it was too late to turn back now. I took a deep breath and slowly looked up at him. “I’ll take the position,” I declare, more like to myself than to him. At my words, he let out a lazy grin. “Thought we've already established that,” he raised a brow. “I'm happy you came to a decision. A smart one.” “You won't regret this, Nadine….That's a promise.” His gaze found my face, his eyes trapping mine. Looking away from him, I nodded slowly and clutched the hem of my shorts. This man might have branded me as his woman but he wasn't my man! “I'm only doing this because I want revenge against my husband, nothing else,” I stated firmly. Something flashed in his eyes, but then it was gone as if it had never been there in the first place. “Of course, as you wish,” he chuckled. “Now that we have it out of the way, let's proceed to the next step of the plan. Your appearance as my woman.” I nodded and followed him out of the hotel. We arrived shortly at a classy boutique, just close to the hotel. the boutique had my jaw dropping in awe. Hendrix seemed oblivious to my shock and guided me inside the boutique. “Mr. Radcliffe,” the shop manager gushed out excitedly. “Show me the latest female designs,” Hendrix stated casually and the manager glanced at me, just noticing my presence in the room. “Oh, this must be Mrs. Radcliffe, of course. Please follow me, some designs just came in last night,” she stated and gestured for us to follow her. “He's not…” I tried to object. “Yes, of course” Hendrix stated, cutting my words off. I glared at him confusingly, why did he agree? I wasn't his wife! But before I could utter my objection I was ushered into a changing room and a set of designer clothes were placed on my hand. “Try this on first,” she said as she gave me a light smile and walked out. I looked down at the clothes in my hands. It was a green suit that matched my eyes, it came with a white camisole and a set of white heels rested on a table at the corner. I cautiously put the cloth on carefully not to ruin it as I glanced at my reflection in the mirror and I was surprised. The woman staring back at me wasn't the Nadine I knew. She looked more confident and exuded a new fresh aura of competence. I walked back outside and the manager squealed in delight. “I knew this would be perfect. It was made just for you,” the woman exclaimed. I smiled gratefully at her and glanced at Hendrix awaiting his approval. “Stunning,” he said. His eyes soaked me in and the butterflies returned with a charged intensity. I guess I was really stunning! “Here is a beautiful necklace handcrafted in Paris,” she gushed out excitedly drawing me from my thoughts as she handed it to me. “I'll take it from here,” Hendrix stated lightly and she handed him the necklace willingly and left us alone. I was about to ask him why he hadn't corrected the manager earlier when I felt warm fingers on my neck. Hendrix turned me around to face the mirror. His hands gently brushed my neck as he placed the necklace gently. When he was done, he leaned close to my ear and our image reflected on the mirror. His hot breath fanned my ear. “You look better this way, very beautiful and elegant,” he muttered in a husky voice that made me hitch a breath in surprise. A soft click drew us out of the heated moment but it was enough to bring me back to my senses. An attendant had taken a Polaroid picture of the moment. He tucked it into the clothes we had chosen and carried them out. I guess that was their service here since Hendrix didn't object to it, instead he seemed genuinely pleased and motioned for us to leave but realization dawned on me and I stilled. “We didn't pay,” I whispered in shock and he laughed. I own this place,“ He casually stated. My jaw dropped and my cheeks heated in embarrassment. Of course he would own a place like this, he is the wealthiest man in the entire city. How silly of me to ask him about payment. I resisted the urge to tap my foolish head. He just chuckled at my behavior and led me out of the store. “Let's head to the company,” he announced and I nodded. It was the beginning of a new dawn!
