Chapter9

I woke up shaken, “Ama, you must wake up, dear, you have been sleeping all day.” Opening my eyes, and that is when everything came into focus. I remembered what happened yesterday, which made me jump up. I started looking around for anyone that I might recognize, but the only person that I saw was Horae. She was looking at me, all confused like she couldn’t understand why I jumped up like that. That is when I heard Ama in my head, “You really are slow, aren’t you? Remember, mother can’t remember who you are; she just sees me.” What the hell did I get myself into now? Horae was just staring at me, “Sorry, mother, I just had a bad dream.” She was still looking at me like I was crazy, “Well, no matter, dear, go to the well and get some water so I can make us some lunch since you missed breakfast.” Looking at her like she was crazy, then Ama popped back up in my head, “Just go to the hut by the lake, the well is there, this is so damn frustrating, I just want to control my own body, but stupid mother had to make that damn spell.” I just looked down at the ground. I was so wrapped up in myself that I forgot how this might make Ama feel. “I am so sorry, Ama, I never thought how this was going to affect you.” It went dead silent in my head, so I just grabbed the bucket by the door and started walking towards the lake. I kept looking for the hut, but I still didn’t see it, so I walked a little further to the right. There I saw a hut, so I walked over there, finding the well that Ama said was there. So, I lowered the rope and bucket down, picking up the water from the bottom. Then I pulled it back up and dumped the bucket of water into the one I brought with me. I started walking back towards the hut, and that is when I noticed it was on fire, so I started running towards the hut. “Horae, where are you?” I saw her lying on the ground, so I ran over to her, pulling her out of the hut. I put my head down by her mouth to see if she was breathing, and she wasn’t, so I went to start doing CPR, but that is when Ama popped back into my head. “Artemis, you have to stop, you can’t do that back in our day, nobody knew how to do such things.” I looked crazy, I know I did; did she not want me to save her mother? I could feel the internal eyeroll that came from Ama, “You’re an i***t, mother will be fine now, back up from her face before she starts suspecting anything.” So, I did what Ama suggested and backed away from Horae, and within a minute of backing away from her, she started coughing really badly, then sitting up. She turned and looked at me, “Ama, are you ok?” I just shook my head yes, Horae stood up, “Ama, we must leave at once, he has found us again.” I could feel fear coming from Ama’s spirit, “Ama, what am I supposed to say?” There was silence once more, with nothing to turn to, “Mama, I don’t want to leave again, we just got here!” Horae kneeled to my height, placing her hand on my face, “I know, my dear, but he must not find you; it would be dangerous for you and everyone else if he does.” I simply nodded my head, and she grabbed my hand, leading me to the lake. Wait, I know this, I have seen it before when I went on the trip last time. She is going to lead me to the middle of the lake, then transport me just like she did to Ama on the trip. “Ama, why do we have to keep running from this man?” But she still did not answer me.” But wait, this time is different; in the last vision, the whole village was on fire. So, this had to happen before the last one. I noticed we were almost to the lake once more. That is when Horae kneeled to me, “My child, we must travel by magic again and remember one of the ways to make sure that our magic is not traced is by going into the water. Are you ready?” I just nodded my head once again, following behind Horae once again. She swam out to the middle of the lake and began reciting another spell I couldn’t understand very well. “Nok en gang ringer jeg deg onkel Poseidon, jeg trenger din veiledning for å dekke magien som jeg igjen er i ferd med å bruke. La meg reise til et trygt sted for å beskytte Ama fra faren sin. Ta oss tilbake til stedet der jeg ble født under i håp om at dette kan være vårt nye hjem.” With that, there was a blinding white light, and a man appeared in front of us. My body moved on its own, and I hid behind Horae. The man was walking closer to my mother; he had a trident in his right hand. His beard was white from age, but his face was as young as the oceans combined. “My dearest niece, you must quit running from him. This will be the last time that I can help you before your father finds out.” My mother hung her head, “I know, uncle, I am sorry, but it is not safe at the moment, Ama is not ready, she just simply is not ready.” This tall man looked behind Horae and kneeled, “Ama, it is your uncle Poseidon, please don’t be afraid of me, I won’t hurt you.” Walking from behind Horae’s leg and walking a little closer to this man. He reached his hand out, gently rubbing the wolf's ears that I had on my head. “You are very beautiful, Ama, don’t ever be scared; you will be the strongest of everyone. Please just listen to your mother, and when the time comes, you will know what to do.” But before I could answer, he stood up, waving his hand in the air, smiling at me. There was that blinding white light again, but I don’t know where it took me because I was having a hard time adjusting to the light that was once there. “Will I be in the place I was the last time I traveled or would this be different?”
