The light finally faded out, and I noticed I was still hanging on to her hand. She began pulling me out of the water and into the forest that was nearby. She bent down to my level and looked me in my eyes, “Ama, remember what happened the last time we had to leave our home.” I looked very confused. I wasn’t sure what she meant, but then I heard Ama in my head, “She has to change my appearance each time we move because my ears and tail draw attention.” Why does that not surprise me? So I nodded at my mother, and that is when she led me to the middle of the forest and had me stand there for a moment.
