AMIRA
“It is just my first day at work and I f****d up big time,” I confessed with a sigh as I plopped down the sofa.
Ciara chuckled as she joined me on the sofa. “You look well stressed.” She pointed out she handed me the glass of juice she was holding when I walked in.
“More like I look well-fed.” It feels as if he fed me just so I can have enough energy to reflect on my behavior today. “Forget about seducing Alpha Jared, I don’t think I will be able to keep my job for long.” Once again, Ciara chuckled. “this isn’t even funny!”
“it is when you narrate it like that.” She muffled, still trying to keep herself from laughing. “You are a cute and beautiful lady, Amira, surely he won’t hate you on your first day.”
My lips wobbled. “he does. I can swear on my life that he does hate me now. I don’t even know how to face him tomorrow with all the series of embarrassment that I faced today.”
“Did you kiss him and he pushed you away?” Ciara asked and I glared at her. She chuckled again. “what? I am trying to think of the worst-case scenario.” Licking her lips, she folded one of her legs and placed it on the sofa. “What really happened? Run me through.”
“It started with me repeatedly referring to him as Alpha when he clearly told me to call him by his last name.”
Ciara rolled her eyes. “That’s not a problem.”
“Then I went ahead to make him wait for me when he told me hours before that we have a lunch meeting outside the office.”
Ciara tries to hold her smile. “Now that’s a little bit bad.”
“We arrived at the restaurant after I delayed him and then he asked me to leave and I questioned him on that."
She didn’t bother holding it in anymore. “That’s crazy Amira. Questioning your Alpha? Please tell me that was all that happened.”
I shook my head and she blurted out a laughter. I slapped her arm playfully. “You not even helping matters right now Ciara.” She muttered an apology. “After the meeting, my stomach grumbled and he suggested we do lunch.”
She cooed. “That’s sweet of him,” she muttered with a dreamy sigh.
“Yeah, it was until he had to drag someone across the driveway for bumping into me and into me and not apologizing.” Ciara’s eyes widened with shock. “I thought so too.”
“Wait a minute!” she scooted closer. “he dragged someone over to apologize to you for bumping into you?”
“Dumped him right at my feet,” I muttered with a sigh. “I couldn’t believe he refused to let the man up until he apologized.”
“And you think you don’t have a chance at seducing him?” she blurted out, her eyes still wide. “The man literally dragged a man across the driveway for you.”
“He said he would do the same for everyone,” I informed her, clearly remembering his statement.
“Hel no he wouldn’t!” she argued, “he probably said that so you wouldn’t read much meaning into his actions.” Grinning, she rubbed her hands together. “Believe it or not Amira, I think that man has an interest in you. I kid you not.”
“Don’t put ideas into my head Ciara.”
Smiling, she reached forward and cupped my cheeks. “I am not kidding you. Now this is what you do, tomorrow, buy him a coffee as an apology for what happened today.”
“This feels wrong,” I muttered.
Ciara frowned and pulled away. “Your family deserves what you are about to do to them, and Phoenix definitely deserves it.”
“And Alpha Jared?”
“I am sure he is going to enjoy it as much as you do.” She winked and I snorted. “The man is hot, enjoy it while it lasts.”

I had to stay at Ciara’s place for a while before returning to the company’s parking lot to get my car. I guess Mr. Snider didn’t even realize that I own a car.
At my home, my phone rang and I picked it up only to find my father’s number on the screen. Remembering that I had forgotten to block his number, I quickly did that before chucking the phone back into the passenger seat.

The next day, I woke up early and did a quick run around the neighborhood before taking a quick shower. While in the shower, I tried communicating with Amber who has MIA on me since after the rejection.
ARE YOU STILL ANGRY WITH ME AMBER?
I got no response.
AMBER?
I AM NOT ANGRY AT YOU. She finally responded and I smiled at myself.
THEN WHY HAVE YOU BEEN MUTE ON ME?
I JUST WANT TO BE ALONE
I chuckled. I AM SORRY AMBER, BUT YOU CAN’T BE ALONE, NOT WHEN WE SHARE THE SAME BODY.
She remained quiet again. AMBER? She kept mute. SERIOUSLY? ARE YOU GOING MUTE ON ME AGAIN? She ignored me.
Scoffing, I got out of the shower and got ready for work.
After getting ready, I opened the door and came face to face with my father. He glared at me. “Did you block my number?” he growled at me.
I nodded firmly. “You have no reason to call me, and I am working on getting my name off the family register.”
“You ungrateful cow!” he yelled before lifting his hand to slap me across the face. His slap stung, but I refused to give him the satisfaction of seeing me cry ever again. “You better unblock me before I decide to block you from life itself.”
I stared at him emotionlessly. “what do you want? Do I have to call the cops before you leave?”
“I heard you still have your job at the Alpha’s company?”
Of course, that is what this is about. “Yes, and?”
“I want to remind you not to sabotage your sister’s relationship with Phoenix, don’t do anything that will make the Alpha break up their relationship or insist that they don’t get married.”
Slowly, my lips stretched into a smile. “one thing I can tell you for free Mr. Walton is that that marriage isn’t going to hold, and the Alpha will be the reason for it.”
He glared at me, probably hoping that I would just drop dead now. “And who is going to stop them? You?’
“Phoenix.” I replied, “he is going to break that marriage off himself.”
My words shocked my father. I left him standing there and got into my car.
Before driving to the office, I got Mr. Snider's favorite coffee. I know it is his favorite because whenever Phoenix comes to visit, he gets that coffee for him.
Pulling over at the parking lot, I rushed to the elevator when I saw it about to close, screaming to the person inside the box to hold it.
Thankfully, the person did and when the doors slid open, I saw it was Mr. Snider. I bowed slightly. “good morning sir.”
He gave me a curt nod in response as the door closed. I lifted the cup to him. “I got you your favorite coffee to apologize for what happened yesterday.”
He glanced at the coffee and then at me and I feared for the level of embarrassment I would face if he rejected it. He accepted it and I visibly exhaled with relief. He chuckled. “How did you know it is my favorite coffee?”
Your son told me. “I pay attention to you more than you know.” I smiled with a shy smile, though I wasn’t exactly feeling shy at the moment.
He glanced down at me, his blue eyes scanning my face before it held my gaze. On a normal day, I would have looked away, but because I was a girl on a mission I held onto his gaze.
He smiled. “Thank you for the coffee.” He almost looked away when his eyes went back to my face. “What happened to your face?”
Shit! I guess it is red from my father’s slap. “I fell on my face while running.”
He frowned. “It is fine if you don’t want to tell me, but don’t lie to me.” He unexpectedly cupped my cheek and smoothed his thumb on the cheek that received my father’s slap, he sighed before pulling his hand away. The elevator opened and he walked away.
I hoped for a reaction from him, but I didn’t expect my heart to falter at his concern.
