CHAPTER 11

MIA “What progress are you making on making us meet with the Alpha?” As my father barged into my living room, his stern expression immediately set off alarm bells in my mind. His unexpected visit at such an early hour was never a good sign. Yawning, still clad in my nightdress, I made a feeble attempt to slip past him and retreat to the refuge of my bedroom. However, before I could make my escape, his iron grip closed around my arm, halting me in my tracks. "I asked you a question, Mia!" His voice was sharp, demanding an answer. "When are we meeting the Alpha?" Frustrated and irritated by his intrusive behavior, I forcefully pulled my hand away from his grasp. "What is your problem, father?" I snapped, unable to contain my exasperation. It seemed like just yesterday he worshipped the ground I walked on, fulfilling my every whim without hesitation. But now, this incessant badgering about meeting the Alpha had pushed me to my breaking point. "Why do you keep pressuring me about the Alpha?" I demanded, my voice filled with frustration. Was this the same relentless pressure he had inflicted on Amira when she was dating Nix? Sighing heavily, he released my hand and offered a hesitant apology. "I'm sorry for grabbing you like that," he conceded. "It's just that I've been anxiously awaiting any updates on your relationship with Phoenix, and so far, I haven't heard anything. I was worried." I stood my ground, arms crossed and a tight frown etched on my face, as I regarded my father with a skeptical gaze. "And why, pray tell, should I be obligated to provide you with updates about my boyfriend?" I challenged him, my tone laced with defiance. "Where is it written that I owe you such information?" Sinking into a nearby seat, my father ran a hand through his hair in frustration. "Let me be frank with you, Mia," he began, his voice heavy with worry. "Our business is seriously struggling Mia. I've submitted countless business proposals to the Alpha's office, but we haven't received a single response. I was hoping that if you could arrange for us to meet with him, I could broach the topic of our proposal directly." Adjusting my robe, I settled into the seat beside him, concern creeping into my voice. "What do you mean our business is struggling?" I pressed, anxiety gnawing at my insides. If our family's business truly was on the decline, how would I maintain the lavish lifestyle I'd grown accustomed to? As my father disclosed the grim reality of our business woes, disbelief washed over me. "Our exported products were lost at sea, and I had taken out a substantial loan from the bank to fund that production," he admitted, his tone heavy with regret. My eyes widened in shock at the magnitude of the situation. "The bank will be coming to collect their dues soon, and I don't even have half of the money to repay them." My lips twisted with distaste as the severity of the situation sank in. "So, this is essentially an emergency?" I probed, but he remained silent, his expression grave. "Does Mom know about this?" I pressed further, He shook his head in the negative. "And what about Logan?" I inquired, knowing that as an employee of the company, he should be informed. "Who knows about this won't change anything!" My father snapped, his patience wearing thin. "Stop asking frivolous questions!" "Why are you directing your frustration at me as if I'm the cause of all your problems?" I shot back, my tone defiant as I pursed my lips in irritation. If he continued to yell, I would not hesitate to escort him out of the house. "Plan a party for my birthday." He shot me a sharp look, incredulous at my audacity. "I just told you we're facing bankruptcy, and you're asking me for money? Have you lost your mind?" Rolling my eyes, I gazed down at my fingers indifferently. "Plan me a birthday dinner or party, or whatever," I insisted, unfazed by his harsh tone. "And I'll have a reason to invite the Alpha." His skeptical gaze bore into me, questioning the feasibility of my request. "You think you can get the Alpha to attend your birthday party?" he countered, his disbelief evident on his face and squinted eyes. "That's why I have Nix," I retorted smugly, emphasizing my reliance on my boyfriend to handle such matters. Rising from my seat, I leveled a pointed gaze at my father. "And in the future, please refrain from visiting me at such ungodly hours and disrupting my sleep." With an apologetic smile, he reached out and cupped my cheeks affectionately, leaning in to press a kiss to my forehead. "I'm sorry for disturbing your sleep, cupcake. I promise, if you can help me out of this predicament, I'll never do it again." A mischievous smile played on my lips as I recalled my recent conversation with Jane. "If I do manage to help you out," I began, "I want something else in return." The anticipation gleaming in his eyes assured me that I held all the cards in this negotiation. "And what is it that you desire, Mia?" he inquired eagerly, ready to fulfill my every wish. With a deadpan expression but a mischievous glint in my eye, I revealed my ultimatum. "Logan's seat," I declared boldly. "I've never taken an interest in the company before, but now I do. If I'm going to save the company from going under, I want his position. I want to be named the managing director." My father's brow furrowed in contemplation. "What about Logan?" he questioned, his tone cautious. "I can't just fire him." His response prompted me to ponder my next move carefully, knowing that achieving my goal would require strategic planning and negotiation. I couldn't care less about Logan. “I never said you should fire him.” I asserted nonchalantly. "I'm sure you can find a suitable position for him, but it won't be one higher than mine." Despite his inner conflict, my father nodded in reluctant agreement. "Get me a meeting with the Alpha, and whatever position you desire is yours." Satisfied with the outcome of our conversation, I allowed a triumphant smile to curl upon my lips. "Good.” Now let's see if Jane and her foolish husband will reveal their true colors. She accused me of being evil simply for pursuing my desires. Let's see just how 'evil' they can be now that I've claimed what rightfully belongs to them.
