The next morning at Royal Crest High, something unusual happened.
Chika arrived early, but her locker was already slightly open. Inside, her notebook had been moved. Nothing was missing—except a small sticky note she didn’t recognize. It had a short message: “You’re smarter than they think.”
She looked around quickly, uneasy. No one seemed to be watching, yet she felt eyes on her.
Across the corridor, Kelvin leaned against the wall with his friends, but his attention wasn’t on them. He kept glancing toward Amaka, who was walking in slowly like she owned every step of the hallway.
Amaka noticed his stare. Instead of smiling, she simply raised an eyebrow and walked past him without a word. That silence hit harder than any greeting.
During break, Kelvin found himself near the notice board where Chika stood reading alone. For a moment, their eyes almost met—but Chika quickly stepped away.
Later that day, the teacher announced a surprise academic competition pairing students randomly.
When names were read, Kelvin froze slightly.
His partner was Amaka.
And Chika had been paired with someone unknown… someone who wasn’t even present in class yet.
No one noticed the classroom door slowly creaking open behind them.
