Chapter 26: Stories
“What happened on the plane when it came to a stop in the water?” asked the reporter.
I was so ready for the press conference to be over. I understood, though, the story’s popularity. I supposed getting the truth out there was better than letting speculation flourish.
“It was chaotic, of course,” replied Garrett. “The plane was sinking fast.”
“I didn’t see anyone pushing anyone else out of the way, though,” I said. I didn’t add that they weren’t exactly standing back and saying “after you,” either. “And Devon was quick opening the exit door he was sitting right next to.”
“It helped that I had time to study the instructions on the door and plan it out before we finally touched down,” said Devon.
“I feel like I owe the fact that I’m alive to Devon,” said Garrett. “H
