Chapter 31: For Better or for Worse I leaned back against Sam’s strong chest and swished my hand in the warm sudsy water. I closed my eyes and relaxed. Buddy was sound asleep in his bed. I felt lucky that he’d been so enamored with the idea of having his own personal space that getting him to sleep alone in his bed hadn’t been as difficult as I’d thought it might be. It looked like Sam’s idea for soft background ocean sounds was going to do the trick. The house creaked and I sat up straight, straining to listen. “He’s fine,” said Sam. “We just checked on him. He was out cold.” “I know. Sorry. It’s the first time since I’ve known him that he’s slept completely on his own. Apparently not having him close by is going to be a bigger adjustment for me than it was for him.” I relaxed again
