Melody
He led her into his house and dropped her hand. Melody couldn’t help herself from shaking like a leaf. Denys glanced at her and disappeared, returning moments later with a blanket and wrapping it around her as if she was a fragile doll. Melody stared at him.
“You are wondering what that was about?” He asked her. She nodded in reply and he sighed. In that moment he looked so emotionally exhausted.
“We sent someone to your clan. Told your brother that you would be staying with us and he wasn’t to worry.” Denys told her. He moved through to the couch and fell into it. “Your brother didn’t take the news well.”
Melody frowned, and moved, sitting on the edge of the couch next to him, where she could flee, if she needed to. She moved her hand up to her neck. Denys’ eyes followed the movement and he nodded.
“We received his body this morning. Your brother left it at the gates.”
Melody covered her mouth and shook her head, standing. She made to leave through the front door. She heard Denys growl lowly and then felt herself being grabbed around the waist. He turned her around as he pushed her against the closed door.
“What the hell do you think you are doing?” He growled at her. Her eyes widened and she tried to get away. Denys responded by grabbing her wrists and holding them against the wood. “You are not leaving.”
Melody opened her mouth, moving it to mutely say “But..” to him.
Denys rested his forehead against hers, he let go of her wrists and gently stroked her cheek. Melody’s eyes raised to meet his gaze and she grew breathless with the intensity there.
“You are not leaving.” He repeated. “You cannot return to that… Monster. What he did to Micah was a test to see what we will do. And if he wants a bloodbath then we can arrange that but you are staying here. He will never touch you again.”
Denys
Melody reached out and the very tips of her fingers brushed for a tiny, fleeting moment against his cheek. She understood. Denys stared at her. He wanted nothing more then to close that tiny, tiny gap between them and kiss her right here, right now. He could feel his d**k harden in his jeans. She didn’t move, her breath was slowing to normal. By god she smelt good. He briefly imagined how he would take her, wrapping those legs around his waist as he pushed her against the door. He let her go though, turning away before he did something that he would regret. She was scarred, hurting. Now would not be right.
“You are in the spare bedroom.” He told her gruffly, forcing his voice back to normality. “Upstairs to the left.”
He locked the door and moved to his own room. f**k. What had he almost just done to her? He stripped down, crawling into the bed and putting his hand around himself. He closed his eyes as he imagined her in bed with him. Just that brief moment touching her had sent thrills down his spine, being that close to her… He didn’t even know her that well and she was a cat. Of all the women in the world he desired a f*****g cat the most. It was almost taboo. The cats were their enemies. But Melody. He groaned into his pillow. Her eyes had dragged him in, he knew that where she led he would follow.
Melody
She made her way up to the spare bedroom. It was small, the white bed was neatly made. She made sure to lock the door before she fell into the bed and into a disturbed night of dreams.
She woke as the birds outside did. In the night she had fallen on the floor, she didn’t remember that. She picked up what she had wore the day before and dressed again, wrinkling her nose slightly. This wasn’t right. She should be back at her clan. If she stayed here then the wolves that had taken her in… She shuddered to think of what the Cats would do… What they had already done. The Alpha confused her. Why was he doing so much to help her?
She made her way downstairs, not used to having room to move about. It was a nice house. The walls were all in light shades of grey. The furniture was simple but comfortable in black, white and shades of grey. It suited the Alpha.
She went to the kitchen. He had been so kind to her, and she wanted to start paying him back.
Denys
The smell of bacon woke him and he frowned. Who the f**k was in his house cooking? He glanced at the clock on his bedside in confusion. It was nine AM goddamnit. He rolled onto his back and stared up at the ceiling as yesterday came flooding back into his mind. f**k! Melody. He all but flung himself out of bed and into a pair of shorts before exiting his room and practically fell down the stairs.
He must have made a fair bit of noise as she was watching him, with a quizzical expression. Then ever so slowly, that same corner of her mouth rose just a tiny bit. She served him breakfast, actually served him. It was good. So good.
“We will get you some clothes today.” He told her as he ate. He watched as she nibbled on a slice of toast. Melody shook her head.
“It wasn’t a question Little Cat.” He said. He chuckled as she frowned at him. “Melody.”
Her name rolled of his tongue and he smiled at her.
“Do you want a shower?”
She nodded and he told her the way, quickly sending a mental message to Saera to bring a change of clothes for her. He could hear the humour in Saera’s mind as she agreed, moments later there was a knock on the door and she handed him a shirt and shorts for Melody.
“I hope you know what you are doing.” Saera said, raising an eyebrow.
“Don’t I always?” Denys smiled back. Saera, the traitor, just huffed in amusement.
