Melody It was dark. Her mother had stuffed her into the cupboard as soon as she heard the noise from outside. Melody hugged her knees to her chest. Ever since the first whispers of what had happened to the royals and Jaide had become scared for her. She had a pillow beneath her and her little stuffed rabbit was being cuddled tightly. She had never liked the dark, never liked being quiet. She shuffled restlessly, not understanding why she had been made to hide. She wasn’t in danger, Mother was being silly. It was all a joke to play on her Father… That was it! Mother wanted her to surprise Father! She giggled and covered her mouth, he would be so surprised. He always loved seeing her, no matter how busy he was. Mother said he didn’t but she lied occasionally. She didn’t like that Melody loved him so much. Her father was best friends with the King. He was so important in the land. Nothing would ever stop him from loving her. She heard him outside the cupboard and she started to giggle again. “Surprise!” She yelled as she jumped out of the cupboard towards him. He didn’t look happy. He was angry at her. He had never ever been angry at her. “Melody!” He exclaimed furiously. She started to back away. Why was he angry? Didn’t he love her? Her eyes filled with tears. “Melody. You have to hide.” He said, trying to get her back into the cupboard. “Hide and be quiet.” She had tried to ask why as tears slid down her cheeks. “Come out, Come out wherever you are.” Melody giggled again and ran towards the voice. She didn’t understand why Father grabbed her around the waist and dragged her and Mother into the cupboard. He covered her mouth with his hand. Melody wiggled. “Why are we hiding from Damon?” She asked. The cupboard door opened wide and her brother stood there grinning at the three of them. “Found you.” His grin was warped as lightning flashed outside. Thunder shook the room, actually rattling the window in its frame. Melody sat straight up in bed. Her body was covered in sweat and the duvet had wrapped itself around her. She couldn’t get out. She thrashed in the soft covers as she panicked. She couldn’t get out. With a hard bump she fell out of bed and finally succeeded in being free. Lightning flashed and Melody trembled. She moved into the bathroom and splashed cold water on her face. She tried to count, as if that had ever worked. “Melody?” Denys was awake, though he said her name sleepily. She sniffed. Since she had tried to escape he had made sure that she was near, or watched all the time. They still hadn’t had that talk. In the last two weeks everytime he seemed close to asking her things he had left. She wasn’t bothered by that. “Little Cat? Everything alright?” His voice sounded like he was in his room. She tried to get her panicked breaths to normal. If he saw that she was panicking then he would just ask her more and more. It had been years since she had thought about that day. The day that everything changed. Thunder rumbled and she couldn’t help herself. She moved towards Denys’s bedroom.   Denys Melody stood at the door. There was something in her expression that he couldn’t read. He sat up and rubbed his eyes sleepily. She was in a short pajama set, most of her legs and her arms were bare and he felt that almost familiar stirring in his own trousers. “What is wrong Melody?” He asked. Her eyes flicked to outside as thunder rumbled “You are scared of storms?” She nodded and shivered. He frowned slightly, was there anything that this girl wasn’t afraid of? Almost instantly he felt bad for his thoughts. He felt even worse about them moments later as lightning flashed and he felt her fly into his body. She hid her face in his chest and wrapped her arms around him. He felt her mouth moved against him as she formed words. Well s**t. There was no hiding just how hard he was now.   Melody She didn’t know what had come over her. She just knew that there was one place she wanted to be and that was in the strength and the safety of his arms. And so there she was. He was harder then she thought he would be… In more then one ways, but she was ignoring the wood that was currently sticking into her thigh. She pressed her face into his well defined chest and tried counting. She was pretty f*****g sure that she counted several numbers several times. Well. This was an insanely bad idea. “Um. Mel?” Denys asked, his voice was quiet, and strangely even. She looked up at him, his brown eyes were darker then normal. “Mel, do you mind…?” He gripped her legs gently and shifted her off of his lap. Melody didn’t know what came over her. She pressed her mouth against his.
