Denys
She was having a nightmare again. He glanced at the clock and stifled a groan. It was five in the morning. Her tiny whimpers and jerks hurt him more mentally then physically. He carefully moved around her, holding her hands in his and holding her legs down with his. He didn’t want her to hurt herself more then she had already been hurt by others. She slowly went still, he liked to think that his presence made her feel safe.
Howls erupted in the dark and immediately he felt her wake. But he had no time for that, His people only howled at this time in the morning for one thing. He leapt out of his bed and threw on some shorts. Something in Melody’s eyes stilled him though. She looked haunted as her gaze shifted from outside to meet his. Then she looked away, falling back on the bed and burying her head in the pillows.
Denys had no choice but to let it go. Despite everything that he felt about his little cat he had to put his pack first. He ran outside to see what the commotion was about.
Melody
Denys went outside, but the howls still could be heard. She covered her ears. She didn’t want to hear what was happening. She already knew what it was. She felt in within her. This wasn’t going away. When she did get up it felt like she was moving through mud. She dressed quickly and slowly made her way outside.
Damon hadn’t come himself, he wouldn’t do that. But he had sent someone. She could smell him on the wind as he was brought into the village. The last time she had seen him, he had been pressing her down, he had been raping her. She found Denys in the small crowd, talking to him. She could see what he was doing, acting innocent, acting like he cared for her.
Denys
The cat kept his eyes down as he asked about Melody. Denys could feel her eyes on him but her mental voice remained silent. The cat before him had scratches on his cheek. Denys folded his arms over his chest.
“Please, great alpha, I tried to protect her.” The cat was saying. His eyes were filled with tears. Denys didn’t know what to believe. Melody had said so little about who had done what to her that for all he knew this cat before him could have tried to help her. He highly doubted it though.
‘Mel?’ He called mentally. ‘Talk to me’
‘I want to see him’ She replied after a few moments. Her voice was soft but there was something else there. Something that he had never heard from her before. His feeling of unease grew. He motioned that Melody should join him.
Melody
That feeling that she was walking through mud grew. She made her way over to Denys, touching his back with her fingertips to keep herself grounded. The cat was watching the floor. She could still smell his breath when he had pinned her. He looked so submissive now, so weak and it made her blood boil. How dare he show up here, acting like he cared? She put her hands in the pocket of Denys’ jumper that she had thrown on. The cold metal of the kitchen knife soothed her.
Denys
Something was off with his Mel. Her eyes were hard, the deep blue that he loved had changed into ice.
“Melody.” The cat said, looking up at her. She bared her teeth at him, and the cat smiled back at her.
Denys watched in what seemed like slow motion as she pulled the knife out of her pocket and plunged it deep into the chest of the cat. His hand grasped at thin air as he tried to pull her back. Her icy eyes scared him. Her whole expression did, even more so when her mouth moved and she started to smile at the man bleeding out in front of her.
It was Saera that managed to reach Melody. She grasped Melody’s hand, forcing her to drop the knife before dragging her back to his house. Sounds all rushed in to be heard, the cat screamed and his pack voiced their fear about what they had just seen.
He couldn’t get Melody’s cold smile out of his head.
