I glanced into the mirror once more. There stood a fragile twig looking straight back at me. I hated everything about her. My hair was a boring brunette and was too thick and wavy for my own liking, I had small breast making me look more boyish, and my body made me look like I had never eaten a meal in years. But I had to be strong, a strong Queen for my Kingdom. I don't need a man to fulfill that.
I felt a tug and it felt like the air was knocked out of me. I gasped in some air, slightly turning my head to my maid, "Are you attempting to kill me?" I commented, half joking. Asha scowled at me, "In order to please your prince charming you will have to look as beautiful as you can" I shook my head in disagreement. "If a man truly desired me, he would love me for who I am"
She made a face but said no more. I gave a slight smirk, knowing i had won the argument. She finished up the corset and scrambled to put on my dress. I wanted to whine and demand that a dress wasn't necessary, I decided against it. She finished with the dress and took a step back, allowing me to examine myself. After a few seconds of judging at myself, I made eye contact with Asha indicating for her to leave.
I waited until the door shut to exhale a long breath and examine myself harder. I was a pathetic princess, just like mother always told me.
As tears started to fill my eyes, a loud sound startled me half to death. Trumpets. I panicked in an instant. I scrambled to run out the door. I started to dash down the stairs, when i was stopped by my glaring mother "We walk gracefully" she tried to remind me. I almost screamed at her in anger, war was here and she still had the audacity! I simply ignored her and finished running down the steps.
When I made it down, I felt my body being pulled backward with a sharp pain in my head. I was met with my mothers angry eyes "You dare disobey me?" she hissed calmly with malice dripping from her words like venom. I shook my head, tears forming in my eyes, the trumpets became louder to my ears. She shook with anger "YOU COWARD" she screamed-
My eyes shot open. My heart was pounding out of my chest, sweat on my forehead, while I was breathing at a fast rate. I turned my head to the noise of trumpets, I sighed. It was only a dream, the trumpets were my wake up call. I calmed myself and held my head in my hands. Oh but how real it felt..
