Kirk landed in an alley with a sickening pop, a sizzle of bright light, and a thud.
He landed face-first on asphalt and grimaced.
Traveling to wherever the hell he just went took a lot of energy from him. He wanted to lie there with his eyes closed and just rest, but he couldn’t.
Well, maybe he could. He took in a few deep breaths, taking in the odor of rotting trash and humid air.
The air…It smelled different.
He opened his eyes and bright sunlight made him squint. He rolled over and looked up at the bright blue sky.
“What the hell?”
Slowly, he rolled to his knees, panting. He stood.
When he left to speak with the nymph, it was late at night. He couldn’t have been talking to her for more than five minutes. He put a hand in front of his face as his eyes adjusted to the sun.
