"Prosecutor Kim, we found the case you asked for"
Kim Taehyung's secretary, Jung Hoseok, walks in with a pile of documents in his arms barely able to handle it all. Good thing, Taehyung was fast enough to catch the falling papers.
"Wow, that's a lot of papers"
Hoseok grins wiping the sweat off his temples.
"Why did you want it anyway, Prosecutor Kim? That case has been dismissed for years already"
"I'm just going to dig into it, maybe it can give me a head start for this case I'm currently working on"
Taehyung sits in his stool in front of his computer, he places the papers in front of him.
"Oh, the death of the chairman of Miniso? Mr. Min Gi Hyuk?"
"The one and only"
Taehyung sighs and sinks into his seat as he flipped open the folder of his new case, only to be interrupted once again by his blabber-mouth of a secretary, Jung Hoseok.
"Well, Mr. Min was last seen with someone, I heard that it was his son. And this son allegedly planned this whole thing to claim all the assets of the company and take his father's place—"
"You heard, Mr. Hoseok. You only heard about it, you don't know if it these are facts or not. And from what I have read in Mr. Min's will, he wrote that its' biggest business partner will be the one to handle Miniso if ever he be deceased, so basically his son will only get some of the assets but the company will be handed over to that business partner"
Hoseok was about to say something but then realized what Prosecutor Kim said has a good point, they cannot just go around making theories based on rumours. Their job was to investigate, look for evidences and then construct intelligent assumptions.
"Oh, I see.."
As Taehyung scanned the documents in his hands, he reviewed Mr. Min of Miniso Industries' death. Mr. Min was found dead in his company's restroom with several stabs all over his body three days ago, no fingerprints were found but during the autopsy Mr. Min had bruises, indicating that he probably fought back to the culprit. There are no CCTVs in the restrooms, so footages are crossed out already.
Taehyung wanted to investigate further, he plops the documents down his table and grabs his coat. He wanted to solve this case just like all those that he handled. He was not going to let this one ruin his ace reputation.
"I'm going to investigate, Mr. Hoseok. Please, review those old documents of the Jeon Family's case that I asked you to find, I will ask you about it when I come back"
"Yes, sir"
Taehyung flees the office making Hoseok drop his happy façade and let out a growl as he stomped and mocked Prosecutor Taehyung from the back, he huffed and brought the documents on his table.
Unwillingly, he flipped open the folder.
"Jung Hoseok, you can do this!”
**
The restroom crime scene was still off limits to all of the employees of Miniso Industries. He showed his ID to the security of the company and they led him to the crime scene. The caution tapes still across the restroom door. Two security guards accompanied him as he went inside the male restroom. The floor that used to be stained with Min Gi Hyuk's blood was now clean and spotless. They only left an outline of the Mr. Min's corpse for further investigation.
Taehyung looked around meticulously, trying to see if there is anything odd around the restroom. He crouched down to his knee and looked closely at the outline of the corpse. Soon enough something gleamed on the floor, he scoots closer and found a tiny shard of glass. His eyes twinkled at the object as he immediately wore his glove to pick up the shard of glass, that a part of it seems to be stained, as it was not coloured the way a glass should be.
He put it in a clear bottle for examination.
He looked around once again, he saw that the windows of the restroom were intact and not damaged.
"Excuse me, were any of those windows or this mirror got broken or damaged on the day of the incident?"
He asks both of the security guards.
"No, sir. None of the properties inside here were damaged"
Taehyung nods. He looked around more and checked each cubicle but nothing more was found. He headed back to his office, satisfied with his search for now.
**
"I found a shard of glass in the crime scene, please examine it and tell me what is that stain"
Taehyung hands over the bottle to be examined. He enters his office to see his secretary typing away on his computer.
"Oh, Prosecutor Kim, you're back"
"Yes, did you do what I told you to?"
"Yes, sir"
"Okay, show me something"
Hoseok stands from his seat and brings the documents to Taehyung's table.
"I found something rather odd, sir. See here.." Hoseok pulls out a piece of paper, lays it down in front of him, "This is Jeon In Guk's will, the late chairman of Jeon Group, Jeon Chan Hae and Jeon Hae Jin's father"
Taehyung looks at the will with the seal of the Jeon Group at the bottom.
"It says here that the eldest son of Jeon In Guk will inherit the Jeon Group businesses.."
"So?"
"So, the original chairman of Jeon Group should've been Jeon Hae Jin, but unfortunately an accident happened –but is it really an accident?"
Hoseok raises his eyebrow and read the continuation of the will, "—if the duty left for the eldest child was not fulfilled nor accepted, the second son of Jeon In Guk and anyone from the Jeon bloodline whose age is 22 and beyond, shall split by 50% each in handling the Jeon Group businesses"
Taehyung narrows his eyes at him and nods.
"The day of the accident, was the same exact day of Jeon Hae Jin's succession as the new chairman of Jeon Group, but suddenly he died in a crash along with his wife. Don't you find it rather odd, Prosecutor Kim? I don't think this is just a coincidence. I think it's a murder"
Murder.
His father.
8-year old, Taehyung, is the witness.
**
"Abeoji, I have something to tell you and please do not take this the wrong way.."
Taehyung almost whispers his plea, as he pushed around the meat on his plate with his chopsticks. His appetite significantly absent.
His father looks at him as he continued grilling pieces of meat. Here goes nothing. Taehyung inhales then exhales deeply, as he tried his best to look at his father.
Word vomit, oh no!
"I know what happened 15 years ago"
His father halts as he seriously gazed at his son, who was tapping the bottle of soju with his fingers, a thing that his son does when he gets nervous.
"What are you talking about?"
"You know what I'm talking about, Abeoji. I know what you did 15 years ago.."
Taehyung finally gathers the courage to look at his father. Face dark, forehead adorning a crease, and lips pressed into a thin line.
"Whatever it is I did. I did it for you"
His father slams the tongs on the table and drinks from the bottle of soju.
"Abeoji, I am about to open that case again"
His father looked at him, eyes wide open, fear and anger swimming in them.
"And I am asking you nicely to be a whistle blower, I know you're not the only one who di—"
His father abruptly stands from his seat slamming his fists against the table, catching the nearby customers' attention.
"No, I am not doing it"
His father hisses before leaving a bill on their table, grabbing his coat, leaving his son alone.
**
Taehyung's head hurt. He knew the moment these old documents resurface, he knew he had to do it. He had a father to betray and an orphaned kid to serve justice.
"Also.. I found more"
Hoseok presses his lips in a thin line, gathering some more documents from his table and putting it in front of Prosecutor Kim.
"These are the cases of the death of Mr. Oh Da Hee owner of the biggest department store in Seoul and Mr. Tan Cak Tiong, Chinese owner of an airline.."
"What does this have to do with Min Gi Hyuk's case?"
Hoseok lays down the will of the two deceased individuals of the cases.
"...will be handled by our partner, Jeon Group" Taehyung reads, Mr. Tan's.
"...Jeon Group shall continue to run the department stores of Mr. Oh Da Hee"
"All three of these cases are connected to Jeon Group. I may sound crazy but I smell something fishy about this, Prosecutor Kim"
A knock on the door resonated, Hoseok goes and opens it, to reveal one of the members of examination team. And as soon as hearing the result, Taehyung's soul left his body..
"Prosecutor Kim, it was blood on the shard of glass. It is not Min Gi Hyuk's blood. It is from a person named Im Hyung Sik..."
