Chapter Seven

WILL'S POV The next day at school was not the best nor was it the worst day I had in one week. The boys had fought over the big bootied girl and had somehow managed to get me involved in the conversation. It had started when Cain mentioned jokingly that the girl looked at me with worshipful eyes and would say yes for a quickie in the restroom if I asked her. The other guys laughed. I did not. It was a demeaning opinion of her and I had no intention of encouraging him to go on with the absurd joke. But this did not make Oscar, who happened to be having lunch with us, take the joke with good grace. "You know, I like when the girls make chasing them much easier than we ever expect. It comes with a thrill. My man here, Will, has all the charm that makes the girls break their inhibitions and do crazy things for him." Cain continued anyway. The joke was a dry one. If he had intended to make a joke. Martin was not laughing and Rock and Jason were barely smiling. Oscar was seated with a few other guys from the football club and they were not laughing either. "Change the f*****g topic. No one here is cheering you on today, can't you see that?" I said in a whisper to Cain who was sitting next to me. He turned to look at me, a look of surprise on his face. But when he turned away, he was smiling. "No disrespect to your bitches, but we can't deny that Will will f**k your girls if he only tries. No matter how small his effort may be." "Why do you think so highly of your friend, Cain?" Oscar asked. His jaw was twitching and I hoped he had not taken so much offense at what Cain had said. The guy had a record of serious anger issues that had led him to fighting other guys in school and getting suspended twice. I sure hoped he was not about to beat Cain up and get another dose of suspension. "Let us not talk about who will f**k someone else's girl today. There is a lot more that makes eating out with the guys a lot more fun." Jason cut in, causing Oscar to look at him. He didn't like to have his question hanging in the air, unanswered. "But guys, this is not even supposed to get anyone salty. I mean, why are you worried about your guy f*****g your babe? You should just know your girl is not loyal and walk away if you can not stand it." Rock added nonchalantly, taking a bit of his burger. He was usually the blunt guy in the group and would say anything just the way he felt and wanted to talk about it. The other guys looked at him. "Let us say today is a bad day to have that discussion, don't you think?" Martin asked. "That is because you are one of the many guys who would have Oscar's girl if only she notices you." Cain said with a devilish grin. I had not been paying exclusive attention to the conversation because Liz was on my mind, but I did hear what Cain had said and the silence that descended following his words. "You have been trying to get your filthy hands on my girl?" Oscar asked suddenly, turning to Martin who was looking furious now. "Oscar, you are not married to the girl and I would ask her out if she gave me listening ears." Martin replied without flinching. "It's no longer Will trying to get in the panties of every girl anymore, it is now you, Martin and you want to start this with my girl?" Oscar asked again. I wasn't expecting it but he started to rise up. "Oscar, chill." One of his guys said. "Listen, guys, we did not come out here to fight. It was for lunch we came out here and you can not afford to ruin that." It was Jason. I was glad that beside me, someone else was sensible.. I was also glad that Liz had not somehow been dragged into the conversation. Probably because I had not mentioned anything about her to Cain yet. Cain was fast becoming too loquacious for my liking and I had no idea how I was going to stop him before he caused more harm. "First, it was that bastard f*****g my girl," Oscar was saying, pointing at me, "And now it is you, Martin? Are there no other girls beside the ones I chose to date? What is with you guys in the basketball club?" Oscar was almost mad with fury but he was doing a good job of suppressing it. He didn't want to let his anger get out of hand. "Oscar," I said in my defense, "I didn't know you were dating Maria when we had a thing. She didn't say and there was no way in hell I could have known." No one was listening to me and I was getting testy. "You bloody bastards, you think you can get away with your crap every single f*****g time?" He was asking as he charged at Martin. Martin was sitting there, stoic. The other guys from the football club tried to hold Oscar back but he shrugged free of them and pushed the table as he reached where Martin was sitting. Our drink spilled on the table and the bottles toppled over. The conversation had hardly lasted twenty minutes and there was so much fury. "You're being a bastard, Oscar." Martin said when Oscar was standing up in front of him. "You want so much to be the hero for a girl who might right now be getting laid by some other dude. You're a loser." I stood up, but I was a bit too late because Oscar's fist connected with Martin's jaw immediately after the words were out. Within a blink of an eye, the other boys rushed to them.
