Chapter Five

LIZ'S POV It still seemed unbelievable that Will Rodriguez had kissed me in one minute and in the next, I had realized he was my step brother. My mother had been elated to be finally meeting her step son and my step father, Greg, had been happy too. I realized through their conversations that left me lost more than half the time, that Will had had a row with his father following the demise of his mother, a topic they did not seem comfortable talking about, and he had left home since and never returned to his father. They had stopped speaking for months and he had no idea his father had remarried. But whether or not he was pleased with the latest development in his father's life, he did not show it as he walked out of the living room, carrying with him whatever it was he had come to pick up from the house, and of course, his ball. He didn't spare me a second glance even when he reached the door. "I would like to see you more often, Will." My mom said when he walked past her. "I'll try, ma'am." He responded curtly before vanishing through the door. I sighed. "Good thing you kids already met," Greg said with a smile that was too broad for his face. I nodded. "We attend the same school." I said under my breath. My mom laughed, a short delighted laugh. "That's absolutely delightful. You can always bring him home!" That was an errand, whether I liked it or not. I was the perfect person to bring her step son home and she loved the idea a bit too much. I did not have a peaceful slumber and I did not stop thinking about him that night. He had kissed me, tenderly at first and then fiercely, his hand had cupped my breasts and he had almost taken my shirt off of me had our parents not returned. I was not supposed to be thinking about him, about what s*x with him would be like because he was my step brother, but I could not keep the thought off my mind. The popular rake and basketball player whom Amma had told me only the previous day that he was good at chasing the prettiest girls and having them, his anatomy lecturer, Miss Kayla Reed had not been an exception. The previous year, it had made rounds in the faculty of medical sciences and his name had been on the lips of many people for days. He had never refuted the rumors nor had Miss Kayla Reed who was way older than he was. I was praying not to run into him or any of the guys from the basketball club the following day at school. As big as Foray School of Arts and medical sciences was, there always seemed to be a way for people to meet all the people they would rather avoid daily. From the cafeteria to the parking lots, there was always an avenue to meet him. My prayer was not answered. I saw him again in the parking lot. This time he was waiting right by my car. He had too many advantages over the ladies and most guys of his age, he drove two different cars, a sports car and a Bentley, but he was standing right by my Peugeot, his hand arrogantly splayed on the roof of the car. "What do you want?" I asked the moment I was within hearing distance of him. He looked around to see if I was perhaps talking with someone else. "I'm talking to you dude, that's my car you've got your hand splayed on." I said. He looked smitten as he brought his hand down and thrust it in his pocket. "You have been on my mind, Liz Melbourne." He said suddenly. I resisted the urge to tell him that he had been on my mind too. "What are you doing later today? Can I buy you a meal outside the school before you head back home?" He offered. I looked at my watch. It was a bit past six in the evening. I had been at the library for hours finishing up a project I was to submit in two days. I was hungry and tired and I needed nothing more than a bath and my bed, but his presence expelled my exhaustion and I felt a surge of inexplicable strength, birthed from my insane attraction to him. I started to berate myself inwardly again, but with every second, I was walking closer to him, until I was standing in front of him. "You asked nicely, but I would like to go home now." I answered. He did not budge as his hand came down to clasp around my shoulder. My heart started to flutter in panic. I had no idea what was going to happen next because in that moment, I could swear that my thoughts were no longer mine. "Don't say no. Tell me when you think you will be free and then we can have some time alone." Like the first time we had spoken at the parking lot, his words were laden with suggestions and knowing that I had had a taste of his lips did not help matters. I felt my limbs trembling as his head swooped down without warning and he claimed my lips in his. His hand went to my breast and a slow moan escaped my lips. When I pushed away from him, it was because of the stark realization that we were both in the parking lot. "Will, I should tell you to stay away from me. Let's not have any reason to come this close to each other again." I said. My head was throbbing and I thought everything was spinning. But he reached out and steadied me. "I don't think I can stay away from you, Liz." He said with a small hint of melancholy in his tone. "Will," I called softly. He lifted a brow. "We are step siblings. We can't do this."
