***Kai
“You're drunk, Dyl. Maybe go in and we can talk about this later?”
“No!” She stood her ground. “I want to talk about this now.”
She must be really drunk to even suggest this. I walked back to where she stood and put my hands on her shoulders.
“I need you to trust me. Just rest and we can talk about it later.”
“I don't… I don't trust that you'll talk about it again,” she said. Suddenly, her words were a little clearer.
I took the key card from her and opened the door, drawing her in with me. She fell onto the bed face down. I pulled off her flip-flops and massaged her ankle, soothing it as she clutched the bedsheet.
After what felt like hours, Dylanne finally fell asleep, which gave me a chance to leave her room. Whatever that had been was scary.

****Dylanne
I think I need to zip my mouth shut. Because what the hell was that? Asking Kai to teach me how to blow a guy?
Oh my goodness, Dylanne Hayes. You must be out of your mind! We’d returned to New York, fortunately, with Kai off my back and my focus back on work. Rhys had told me I’d be working side by side with Kai because of his upcoming project, and I know how to work fine with new or existing clients the company has.
Still, I’d been looking for every way to stop whatever we had planned. Surely I couldn’t show my face to Kai after begging him to teach me how to give him a blow job.
He’d be furious and, in turn, think I’m some kind of weird person with no self-respect.
All my plans to flunk this out hadn’t worked. I stared at my phone as I reread the message Kai sent that morning. I’d been avoiding him for two days since that night.
A Range Rover pulled up where I stood; the tinted window rolled down and Kai’s face came into view.
“Get in,” he said, opening the door as I climbed in. I said nothing else the minute my butt hit the seat.
The air was thick and there was complete silence in the car. I cleared my throat one too many times but he didn't even say a word, so I decided to start.
“Hey,” I started, eyes staring straight. It'll be easier that way.
“So about that night. I was drunk and completely out of my mind so don't think much about it.”
He was still silent.
I mean… maybe we shouldn't bring that up. Yeah, I was just saying stupid s**t.
“Mhm.”
Mhm? Well, I'll take anything I can get.
“Good talk,” I said, relaxing into my seat.
I looked out the window, feeling awkward, so I started humming a melody. My head was turned toward the road, not toward the dark-haired man beside me.
“Where are we going?” I asked when I noticed he had taken another turn. This route definitely did not lead to his office.
“Home.”
“What?! That wasn't the plan.”
“Relax,” he said. “I have some documents at home and it's better to check through the ones you have.”
That was a good enough explanation, but why was my heart beating so fast? I shook myself, trying to think of anything else. It's just his house… it's not like he's not going to push me against the refrigerator and have his way with me.
Jeez.
That's it. I'm literally a goner.
Focus, Dyl. This is work and he already understands boundaries.
Before long we arrived at his house. “We're here,” he said beside me and stepped out.
I hadn't actually been to Kai's place before. I stepped away from the car and stared at the mansion in front of me. It was big enough to house five families and more. Security guards stood by the doors, and a huge man approached us.
“Boss,” he said, taking the car keys from Kai.
I stood wide-eyed, taking in the mansion and the fountain that sat prettily in the middle of the large grounds. I followed Kai as we walked inside.
“You can wait here,” he said, showing me to the couch. “This is Alan, he's my head of security. Just give me a few seconds; I'll be back down.”
I nodded as the two of them went upstairs. The aroma of freshly baked cake wafted through the air. I rose and followed the scent to the kitchen. From behind the counter I could see a pair of skinny legs. She sang happily while whisking a bowl of flour, dancing around the kitchen.
Who is that?
I moved closer, taking slow steps. She danced with earpods in, eyes closed. I got so near that when she opened her eyes she screamed.
“Oh my God!!”
“Oh, I'm so sorry to scare you.”
She bent slightly, her hand to her chest as she took deliberate breaths to calm down.
“You scared me there…” she said, then stood straighter.
She smiled at me and dropped the bowl on the counter, rubbing her flour-stained hands on her apron.
Up close I noticed her chestnut hair and petite frame in shorts. Who was she, and why was she making dessert at Kai's place?
Is she a friend or something…
I shook my head to chase the thoughts away. That's none of my business anyway.
“I'm Annabelle,” she said, offering her hand. I smiled softly and looked from her hand to her face. I didn't know how to feel; my brain was arguing over whether she was a cook or just a platonic friend of his.
Why was this even bothering me?
Why wouldn't it? After lying to myself about whatever I'm feeling for Kai.
“Uhmmm… helloooooo?” Annabelle snapped her fingers in front of my face.
“Hey,” she waved. “Are you lost or something?”
“No. I'm with Kai,” I said, a little proudly, waiting for her reaction.
She was about to speak when she looked up and smiled. “Oh, hi Kai… and Alan.”
I turned and my breath caught when I saw him. He'd taken off his suit and was in a black fitted T-shirt and gray sweatpants. There was just something about black and white that fit him like a second skin.
“Dyl… you've met Anna.”
“Oh, yeah.”
“Anna is Alan's sister, but she loves cooking so she helps me with food.”
“He sucks at cooking,” Anna added. “I didn't catch your name.”
“Dylanne. You can just call me Dyl.”
My worries eased. Kai walked over, plopped a hand on my shoulder, and I tried my best not to freak out.
“That's all for now, Alan.”
“Okay, boss.”
He turned and led us out of the kitchen and up the stairs. I looked down, daring not to meet his eyes. He was so close, his hand across my shoulder as if we'd been best friends for ages. In the hallway I was about to say something when I was suddenly shoved to the side. I hit the wall as Kai loomed over me, his hands framing my head and a devilish glint in his eyes.
