Chapter 17

1016 Words
***Kai I didn't think the same person I was trying so hard to get off my mind would show up in the bar tonight. In my defence, I wasn't following Dylanne. I had called her a few times, which is just twenty-three. But no response. Not even a text. Not even a voicemail. I know she was avoiding me. So I needed a few drinks or some distraction that meant being in a busy place rather than stalking her socials. However, the plan was not to watch her kiss some random dude. I pulled her fast and immediately Kim came right in front of us. “Kai? What are you doing here? What's going on, Dyl?” Kim asked, suspicion in her eyes. “We're leaving. I trust you can get home yourself,” I said, grabbing Dylanne’s back from the seat and walking straight to the entrance. She fidgeted in my arms, trying her best to run away, but I didn't let her go. “Let me go!” She pushed and then shoved me aside. I wedged my hands on the wall to stop myself. I watched her walk back to Kim, who was already on her heels with Brooke and Kendall beside her. “You both are causing a scene,” Kim said when she got near. “Look, Kim, I can explain,” Dylanne started. “I didn't know he would be here. It's like he's following me or something,” she blabbed. “Following you?” I wish. “If you'd answered my texts and calls then we wouldn't even be having this conversation.” She scoffed angrily, flailing her arm and groaning in frustration. “I just… my answer is no! No, I won't date you!” “Date him?” Kim interrupted this time, her eyes moving between Dylanne and me. s**t. Dylanne stood frozen, and that's when she knew she had f****d up. Kim's face changed from suspicion to something like pain and betrayal. She stared at Dylanne, hands clenching hard on her harmless shoulder bag. “Are you f*****g my brother?” “No!...I.” Dylanne kept silent. “Kim, we can do this at home and not out here,” I said, but she held a hand in the air. It was clear she was pissed off and I wasn't even the one she was angry at. “I wasn't talking to you, Kai. I think I've heard enough from you,” she said, looking back at Dylanne, who had her head down and fingers fidgeting. “I'll ask you this only once, Dyl. Did you or did you not f**k my brother?” Her words came out thick, the anger in her tone loud. Dylanne kept silent. I could see Brooke and Kendall trying to tell Kim off, but she stood relentless, not listening to anyone. She wasn't looking at me. She wasn't even mad at me. But I could tell she was furious at Dylanne. For the first time since I've known my sister, she looked and sounded different. It was like she was a different person entirely, and she wasn't backing down. “Answer me!” She shouted, drawing more looks from inside and outside the bar. Dylanne shook with fright, her hands tapping each other. “Kim—” “Yes,” Dylanne confessed. “Yes, we f****d. But I didn't do it to spite you, I'm serious.” She begged, but Kim only stared at her like she was making a fool of herself in public. After what felt like hours, Kim burst into a fit of laughter. It wasn't a nice laugh. It wasn't the kind that could make anyone else laugh. It sounded condescending and sharp, like she was in so much pain and angry at the same time. “Of course… you had to be one of them and f**k my brother. Tell me, how many times did you let him hit while you lied to me?” “That's enough!” I cut through. How dare she speak that way to Dyl? Like Dyl was some kind of w***e I was using? No f*****g way. She didn't let her explain, didn't even let me say anything, yet she ridiculed her. I looked back at the bar. All eyes were on us now and I could hear whispers in the corners. Some pretended they weren't watching but I knew better. I held Dylanne's arm and she looked back at me. Her face was red, streaks of tears already pouring down her cheeks. Seeing her cry hurt me. I don't care if Kim was my sister; I wouldn't let her verbally abuse Dylanne this way. “We are leaving,” I reassured her. She ran into my arms, loudly sobbing on my chest. She was in a lot of pain and I wasn't going to be a d**k and let her stand there and listen to whatever s**t Kim had to say. “For someone that calls herself a friend, you disgust me. The three of you,” I said. Brooke and Kendall looked away while Kim kept staring at Dylanne until we walked out the door. I got to the car and placed Dylanne in the passenger seat. She didn't look up, just sat with both hands on her face while she cried. I tried to console her and put a comforting hand on her shoulder. “Just take me home,” she muffled. “Please.” I stood up and walked back to the driver's seat. “You should know,” I started slowly. “I didn't plan all of this. I didn't think it through…” my voice trailed. “Yeah, that's the thing though, isn't it?” She looked up at me. “You never think things through, Kai. You just do things as you wish and now look where it got me.” She looked out the window, hands tucked under her thighs. She was close yet so far away and this was my fault. It f*****g was. “Just take me home.”
