Pains

Desmond's POV I knew I had to escape, suddenly the whole room became claustrophobic. I had to leave, suddenly I didn't fit into the place. What was I even thinking? Why did I come to a party? It was so unlike me. I turned swiftly and raced down the hall, I had to escape. Suddenly a hand grabbed me, I was already sweaty and I felt my sweaty palm stick onto a big palm. I looked up to see it was Jason. He looked worried, I could see the fine lines of frown on his brows in the dim-lit hallway. "Are you okay?" He shouted, the music was so loud and I cursed under my breath. I nodded and snatched my hand from his grip. I ran outside and a strong wave of nausea overcame me. I bent over and began vomiting. "Are you okay?" Jason repeated again. He was already by my side, he was bent over me and was rubbing my back soothingly. Why did I react that way? I didn't even take alcohol, why did I vomit? I couldn't find answers to these questions. I stood and my head was quite foggy, I clung unto Jason. "I'm sorry, I think I'm going to be sick," I replied and Jason nodded swiftly. He held me with a strong arm and was opening a bottle of water with another. "You should take this water, it will help. Did you drink before coming?" He asked again, and the concern in his tone made my heart melt. This was someone I just met and he acted so nice to me. This was something I wasn't used to. "I should leave," I said and moved away from him. "No, I don't mind driving you home," Jason said. "What? Isn't that party for your friend? No, thank you but no," I said. "Hey, I will drive you home and come back. It won't take me a long time, I just want to make sure you're okay," Jason said and I realized that there was no point in fighting it. "Wait here, let me quickly grab my keys," Jason said and I nodded. I leaned on a lamp post. Jason came back with his keys and he assisted his 2023 Aston Martin. How did a flower trimmer in a prestigious college afford such a sleek vehicle? Is Danville paying their non-academic staff members that much? I knew the salary range so I knew that it wasn't possible. "Where do you live?" Jason asked and I gave him my parent's address. "I stay with my parents, sister and nieces," I said and realized that my cheeks were burning. I was embarrassed. "Okay," Jason replied. I looked at him and saw that he wasn't surprised, or disgusted by the information. I swallowed the sputum that had gathered in my mouth. I rested my head on the headrest and closed my eyes. We arrived at my home around 9:15pm. I got down and he also got down. Was he about to follow me to my parents' house? "Wait, let me help you inside," Jason said and moved to help me. That was when I caught the sniff of Jason's scent. He smelt so good and his eyes were so beautiful. Jason was a very beautiful man! The thought of a beautiful man helping me inside with the prying eyes of my family made me blush harder. "You're hot," Jason said. "I'm hot?" I asked and blinked three times. Did I hear that right? "Yes," Jason said and he gently pressed his hand on my forehead. Of course, I am hot! I bit my lips and sighed. "You should probably rest tomorrow, you can call in sick," Jason said. I nodded vehemently. "No, I can't do that. I just resumes and that will leave a bad impression. Once I sleep, I should get better. I still don't understand why I am suddenly ill, I was okay before I left the house," I said as we walked to the doorstep. Jason didn't respond, I pressed the doorbell and I could hear the screams of my nieces as they raised to the door. "It is Uncle Desmond!" They screamed and tried to jump on me while laughing hysterically. Jason joined in the laugh and we all walked to the sitting room were my mother was running her shop books while trying to close the account for the day. . "You're back? That's so fast," Mum said without raising her head. "Holy s**t!" Sarah shouted, she had come out of her room all dressed up for her night school. "I have told you not to swear in front of the kids again," Mum said and raised her head to look at Sarah, but instead she was staring at Jason. "And who do we have here? And why do you look so pale?" She asked. "This is Jason, he brought me home. I got sick," I said and grunted. Mum quickly dropped the books she was attending to and she rushed to me. She began to reel off instructions to the kids and Sarah. Jason led me to a chair, I was already sweating as my fever was breaking. "Is he about to have another crisis?"Sarah asked mum, I grunted. I hate how vulnerable I was in front of Jason. Okay, I know you would be curious about the mention of the crisis. I had left that out of the story. I am actually a sickle cell patient and I have been always in and out of crisis for most part of my life. "Do we need to get him to the hospital?" Jason asked, his hands were still wrapped around me protectively. "You should get going Jason, I'm sorry for ruining your party," I managed to say amidst the pain that has begun coasting through me. "I want to stay," Jason rasped and we held our gaze. I looked away and shut my eyes. It was too good to be true. "Let's get him to a hospital, we should text dad about what's going on," Sarah said. "Where is he?" I asked. "He went to see one of his partners, he has a new project offer," Mum said. "C'mon, let's get him in the car," Sarah said and Jason began to help me up. "What about the kids and your job?" Mum asked. "I will call my boss and explain what happened," Sarah said. "I will drive," Jason said and the whole house was soon in chaos as they were trying to pick up the necessary things for a stay over at the hospital and also trying to get the kids into the car. And off we went to the hospital with me squeezed in Mom's minivan writhing in pain.
