I slipped inside the large ballroom as the volunteers were closing the door. Becca’s raised hand caught my eye, and I hurried down the third row to where she’d saved me a seat, trying not to step on anyone’s toes with my simulated gravity boots.
Moments later, the house lights went down, the stage lights went up, and the Into the Black cast stepped onto the stage to thunderous applause from the hundreds of people packed into the room. The collective body heat made me sweat inside my costume armor.
The moderator spent much of the hour asking questions of the cast and the creator of the show. They were all every bit as entertaining as the characters they played. I was enthralled. I loved learning how the actors brought the characters to life, hearing about funny situations on set, and g
