Ibukun was so relentless that she got to the office before Toyin. She sat on Toyin’s seat expecting Toyin as the cleaner mops and cleans the office; she must be on her way already by now Ibukun thought within herself clinching her hands together. Toyin walks in, immediately Ibukun sets her eyes on her, she rushed to her; where did he say he leaves now? Ma’am, Toyin bends in shock trying to dodge as if it was an intruder that bagged at her. I didn’t know you were expecting it this fast. What do you mean? Don’t tell me you didn’t ask? No, I did but he said the guy has traveled to the state to further his medical course. Sudden joy hits Ibukun; wow, I can’t believe it, she laughed out loud. Tayo is now a medical doctor, wow, I am so happy for him. Oh, yes that was the name my brother called him. Ibukun joyfully walked into her office, even if she has not met with Tayo in person, the news she heard about him was enough to cheer her up of her distressed predicament. Happy birthday to you dear, Tayo lifted Adeola on his shoulder as he runs through the garden. Brother Tayo, stop! Stop!! Stop!!! Adeloa wavers on Tayo’s shoulder; I’m going to fall. Tayo just laugh; you can’t fall, don’t you know who is carrying you? It’s me super love. Hmmm, Adeola giggled; just put me down. Adeola popped up from her dream, it was her 14th birthday, as usual, an anonymous gift was awaiting her downstairs, Adeola rushed downstairs from her room found a card on a wrapped box. Yes the road is long, but people have scaled through. Some died along the way while you meet some on the journey. Never compare yourself with the others. The word life is not a bed of roses will ring numerous times in your ear, but never let it weigh you down instead, feed yourself with the strength to scale through because the road is long. Adeola knew the letter was from Tayo, she quickly rushed out to the gate man, she kept are respect in bay; good morning sir. Please sir, who delivered the package inside? Na wan bike man carry am come, but he don go. Did you ask his who sent it? No, since he don say na for you. Okay, thank you sir, she headed back inside. Mum, I have a feeling that this DR Ife that has been sending me gifts on my birthday is brother Tayo, this is not the first time he is sending me gift on my birthday. It can’t be Tayo, it might be one of your fathers acquaintance. No, I have a very strong feeling it is brother Tayo, she flew on the couch lying flat and facing the ceiling. That is enough, jelila please take this box away and bring her cake. No, I will take my box in myself Adeola stopped Jelila. You don’t have to worry, I won’t let you take that yourself little princess, Favor picked up the box. Ibukun was so excited, she helped herself with some cookies and exotic drink, she rested her back on a throw pillow enjoying her mood with a movie while Mojisola sighted her as she was about going inside the kitchen; my princess, you seem so happy today, can I share in your joy please? Yes o, Ibukun gave her mother the cup of drink; mummy, I am so happy, Tayo… Mojisola cuts her speech; did you find him already? Not yet but soon. Then what is the reason for your overwhelming excitement? Mummy, Tayo is now a medical doctor, she jumped at her mother with a warm hug. It’s a lie, Mojisola pulled Ibukun away from herself. I couldn’t believe it too, but I saw his picture with my two eyes and even Toyin’s brother confirmed it, he even traveled to further his medicine course. Wow, that’s great news. Seun, drove pass Tayo on her way to Tosin’s place. Who is this leaving mum’s place? The gate man open the gate, Seun drove in. Mummy, who is that? I mean the one who just left the house. She asked with a lot of curiosity expressed o her face. Oh, that was doctor Ife, he came for my check up, why did you ask? Oh, I was just curious, that’s all. Shade, please help me get water. He was the boy I told you saved my life the other day, while I got an asthmatic attack. Haaaa, I should have met with him, at least to thank him. Don’t worry, you will meet with him some other day, he has a very nice personality. Hmmm, now that you are saying this, you really want to make me meet him so soon. One does not protect another person head at the expense of allowing one’s head to be carried away by a hawk, but Ibukun never minds the adage. She was driving on the return lane while she saw Tayo on the other lane of the road buying some fruits by the road side, she stopped immediately. Tayo! Tayo!! Tayo!!! She shouted, distance was a barrier, Tayo couldn’t hear her. Before she could get to the demarcation of the road, Tayo had already drove off. Ibukun quickly returned to her car to give a chase. She got her focus on Tayo’s car giving a full chase speed trying to catch up with Tayo. Out of nowhere, a truck hits her. Few moments later, a man rushed Ibukun to the hospital in a van; the nurses were assisted by the man to lay Ibukun on a emergency bed. Doctor, please take care of her, she was driving recklessly and suddenly ran into a truck. I don’t know where she is rushing to, the man said with lot of fear expressed in his words. He was covered in sweat as he moves to and fro wiping his sweat with his hand looking at the nurses rush Ibukun into the OR. Ibukun was in a pool of blood as a corner of her head still bleeds. A nurse walked out of the OR to meet the man; sir, do you know any of her family Member? No, maybe you can check on her phone, I was at the scene of the accident. I only brought her here as a Samaritan, that’s all. After a while, mojisola rushed into the hospital, where is my daughter, she asked sweating and tears rolling down her eye as she fall to the ground. A nurse rushed to her, ma’am, please be calm, who do you seek? The girl that had a car accident that was rushed here a while ago, please where is she? She is in the OR. The doctor is attending to her. After a short while the doctor walked out of the OR, a nurse met him and told him Mojisola was the mother of the girl in the OR. Okay, ha, mummy, please see me in my office. Mojisola walked into the doctor’s office in tears and her wrapper almost loose; doctor, how is my daughter? All thanks to God, Ma, your daughter is out of danger now, but she had a little damage on her head which has slightly affected her brain. Thing there is that she might wake up with a memory loss, but with time she will recover. Okay Doctor, Mojisola adjusted herself and weep; who have I offended that want to kill my only daughter? Ma, your daughter is fine. My daughter is fine but she won’t recognize me as her mother till I tell her that. Sailing through the sea, my paddle won’t let go of my hands, the sea calls my name singing out so loud that it gets me scared. I got grieved by fear hoping to see the other side of the ocean immediately but every move seems like that of a slug. I cried out so loud but the wave ate my cry. It seems like I was the only man on earth and even the planet earth has turned it back on me. My silence would not encourage neither would my cry instead, they brought me to suicide. For a while I looked through the ocean afar of, the blue water glance at me then splashes hope on me suddenly the dolphins entertained me flying across each other with so much laughter. Then I realized that no matter what I go through, I still get some reasons to live. Then again, I thought of what I wanted to become and what I ought to do, I have no other option but to live. Tayo read out a spoken word he composed by himself to Tosin. Wow, that was awesome. You never told me you do poems too. Chuckles, I only do them when I am less busy. Oh, that is good. Few weeks later, Ibukun was discharged from the hospital. She walked through the door looking at every corner of the house. Mind your steps, or should I help you to your room? No, I’m fine. I will just have a seat here. Mojisola took the bag with her inside but was very worried about Ibukun’s predicament. God, please heal my daughter completely, tears rolled down her eyes. Suddenly, there was a knock at the door. Ibukun groans in pain holding her head as she replies to the knock; yes, who is there? Please come in. Toyin rushed in, ma’am so how are you feeling now? Much better than before, just that my head won’t stop aching, she held her head. Don’t worry ma, all will be back to normal. Mojisola walked out of the room. Ha, mummy, good afternoon ma, she knelt down to greet. Good afternoon my dear, how are you doing? Fine ma, she sat back on the couch and patted Ibukun. Adeola and Tobi were working out their assignment together while Tobi suddenly stood up that he is done and making jest of Adeola. Jeez, you are such a slow writer, we started together but I’m done with mine. What was that suppose to mean? You feel too proud these days. Yeah, and that’s because I’m at the top, he smile wide. Top my foot, just come here though, I need your help with this. Wow, you’ve got a closed circuit television coverage in your house. Nope, not even one. But that is one over there, Tobi pointed at the tiny camera at a corner of the ceiling. Haaa!!! Adeola shouted. All this while, I never knew there was a CCTV camera in this house. What do you mean by you never knew, isn’t this your house? Your bad, Tobi giggled; that’s not the matter, are you done with the calculus? Didn’t I ask you to help me, frog head. What did you say? He tries to get hold of Adeola but she dodged him.
