Chapter Three

1120 Words
A week had gone by since I came to Hemlock Hills and each time I went to the bar, that woman wasn’t there. I approached Jack one night about it and all he said was that she was taking some time off due to some events and wouldn’t be back for a while. I knew immediately why. The night in the alley when that fucker decided to touch her with his filthy mitts. I had dealt with him but as soon I had, the woman was already gone. Jack said her name was Jenni. I liked that name and I wanted her.     My Beta came to find me last night and passed on a message about some issues that needed us back at the pack-house and that tore me but I wasn’t about to say no. We had travelled back early this morning and all through the meeting, my thoughts were on Jenni. Her scent, her eyes, the way she held herself despite the outcast status.     “Adam? Are you even listening?” came the voice of my Beta.     “Sorry, you were saying?”     I could see he wasn’t very impressed with me and I gave him an apologetic look before asking him to continue.     “The rogues are starting to amass on the southern border of our territories. We suspect it’s from the fallen pack.”     Hearing Josh’s words gave me a bit of a rush of panic for a moment. There had been a rumour that a pack had exiled their Luna and their Alpha and the Beta of the pack had taken over and they had sided with the rogues. That pack was a fairly large one and this news bothered me. “You’re talking about New Moon’s, right?”     “That’s the one. Adam, we have to start getting ready for a fight. I know we have new peace treaties with the Alaskan’s and the Grey Moon’s, maybe it’s best we have a council with them? We could use the numbers.” Josh would explain his point of view before Samantha walked in.     “Sorry to bother you guys, but we managed to take a rogue to the dungeons. Should we interrogate him or do you want to, Adam?”     “I’ll leave that to you, Sam. I trust you have your methods? Use what you can. I need to go back to Hemlock Hills for a bit. There’s someone I need to find.”     “You’re not talking about that bar chick, are you?” Josh would jest as he laughed. “Dude, you have to leave her be. She’s an exile!”     I saw Sam give me a look and I let loose a small growl. “Oh lay off and leave with Sam. You’re dismissed for now.”     Once Josh and Sam had left my office, I had a feeling things were going to be a lot more complicated from here on out. It wasn’t easy for a pack to take in an exile as it made most look weak in the eyes of others. I could feel my frustrations growing with more and more time that passes. Where are you? -----Jenni POV-----     It’s been at least a week or two now since I’ve been at work and I really don’t want to go back. It was horrible! Jack was understanding about the attack, which I’m grateful for, but honestly, that kindness could only go for so long before I felt as though this wasn’t going to get better.     I got out of bed and went for a shower, letting the hot water wash over me in a cascade of steam. When I finished, I chose to wear some skinny jeans with a white button down blouse and put my black hair up in a messy bun. I chose to do light makeup for tonight and finally headed to the bar, ten minutes away.     When I arrived, Jack clearly looked impressed that I even showed up at all, which I still felt horrible    about. I would slowly walk up to the counter and look at him with an uncomfortable expression.     “Do I still have a job?” I’d ask, sort of reluctant to hear the answer.     “Go sort out the storage room for now. We’ll be busy tonight.”     Hearing Jack say to me that I needed to go get to work filled me with a sense of excitement! I couldn’t be happier to still have a job and quickly went to it. I still felt out of sorts and wasn’t feeling too relaxed just yet as I had no idea if the Seasoner were still in town or not. That greatly worried me as I organized the storage room and moved some boxes to refill the bar. Once that was done, I went on the clean the tables, floors, bathroom, bar and prepared all our glasses and number one sellers that were popular with this biker group.     I caught myself daydreaming about the man from a week ago. He was handsome. Blonde hair and ocean eyes, deep voice; who wouldn’t love that! I just felt like I wouldn’t see him again and that almost made me feel a little relieved as I had made a fool of myself in front of him. -----Adam POV-----     The wind on my bike felt good as I made my way back to the bar, hoping to see that woman again. She was beautiful and I had to see her. I felt drawn to her. An unnatural sensation of want, lust, pure possessiveness. I want her more than anything and if I could just talk with her, I’d be happy.     I could see the bar coming up and I pulled off to the side of the road, something inside me panicking and making my heart race uncontrollably. What would she say? What would I say?! The panic was setting in and I got off my motorcycle and began pacing back and forth, freaking out silently to myself.     “Do I get her flowers? What about chocolate? Both? GAH! This is no way for an Alpha to act! C’mon Adam! Think!”     I managed to snap myself out of it by slapping my face and started getting back on my bike and heading into town. Screw it. I’ll get her flowers.
