Elaine POV
I can't believe my eyes. My forgotten mate rescuing my son?
My eyes glittered at him in a way that simultaneously scared the crap out of him.
“So it's you? We finally met again. What a cruel world,” I chuckled and walked out on Marcus. He didn't relent as he went after me.
“Please come back. Where are you going?” I walked so fast and got to where my car was parked.
"Don't you dare touch me? You'll be the last person I'll run to for help. My son will be rescued without you. I don't need you.” I flared up and almost spat on his face.
"Son? What are you talking about? I thought you terminated the pregnancy then?” I was puzzled. Knowing I had a son raised his eyebrows and left him pondering on a thousand questions.
"Yes, you heard me right. Why am I even talking to you? It's pointless. I owe you no explanation. Now get your filthy hands off me," I abandoned him and drove back home with Catherine.
"That was rude. Why did you have to do that? I thought you wanted your son back home? Did you realize the Alpha is the only option you've got? I demand an apology for what you did!” Catherine yelled at me for disrespecting her.
"Can we not talk about this, please? I am not ready to have this conversation with you.
I understand you're trying to help out, but I'm not going back to him for help.
I rather wait for the cops to be done investigating,” I responded, and was obstinate.
Catherine was stunned, yet amused. She can't seem to understand what happened out there. Everything seemed like a movie.
“Is there something you are not telling me? Does he remind you of someone?” she interrogated me.
"What are you talking about?” I feigned a smile to deny it, but Catherine was smart enough not to fall for my antics.
"Don't you dare play this game with me? I may be old-fashioned but certainly not stupid. I still got my sense of discernment. What do you know about the Alpha? I need you to start talking now,” Catherine sparked outrageously.
"Okay, fine. I'll talk. Alpha Marcus was a mother f*****g bastard I told you about. I curse the day we met. Gosh! He just reminded me of the past,” I conceded and was beginning to narrate when I was halted by Catherine.
"Hold on a second. So you know him? This is unbelievable. It's getting interesting already. Go on! Spill it already. I want to know everything. Leave no stone unturned,” she signaled me to proceed.
"Can you keep a little secret, please?” I pleaded and whispered silently.
"Secret? My lips are sealed. You can share with me,” I assured with a little demonstration.
"Alpha Marcus was my mate destined by Selene, the moon goddess. He got me pregnant and asked me to abort it, but I refused. That baby was the missing Austin, my 4-year-old son."
After a prolonged silence, I finally made the shocking revelation.
"Oh my goodness! You're a female werewolf?” Catherine couldn't complete the question as she took a step backward.
“No, I'm a leopard. I do shift forms. Hey, why are you edging backward? I'm not that dangerous. Believe me, I meant no harm,” leaning forward, I assured.
"Are you certain? I don't want to get hurt. Stay back! I don't even know what to believe anymore. It's so hard to imagine that Alpha Marcus was about to rescue the same boy he sanctioned for his abortion.
Now I know why you despise him. I understand he hurt you in the past, but you have to let go, for your son. We need him alive.” Catherine advised.
She was calm again and inclined to move closer to me.
"NO! I don't want to set my eyes on him ever again. I don't even want him anywhere close to my son. Alpha Marcus was a bad influence. Don't I deserve better? Why am I a victim of such circumstances?”
I wept and fell in the arms of Catherine, who consoled me as though she was my mother.
"Don't blame yourself. It's not your fault. We all got our sad stories, but you know what's important? Get over it! Your background shouldn't bring you down.” She motivated me and restored smiles to my face.
"Now you're making me so emotional. Why are you so nice to me? We are just next-door neighbors. You don't even know me, yet you're this pleasant and passionate about my personal affairs.”
I blushed and hugged Catherine so passionately.
"I'm glad I could…” Catherine got interrupted by my incoming call.
"Forget about that. I don't think it's important,” I declined the call.
“What have you done? It might be the cops calling to disclose sensitive information about your son.”
She advised like a mother, opening my eyes to unveil the significance of answering the call. The phone rang again, and this time, I responded, placing it on my left ear. “It's the abductors. What should I tell them?” I whispered to Catherine.
"Put the damn phone on loudspeaker.” She commanded with a soft tone.
"f**k you b***h. What took you so long to answer the damn phone? I see your son's life doesn't matter to you anymore.” One of the abductors blasted her for taking too much time to respond to the call.
"Please spare my son's life. I'm just a civil servant. I can't afford the $500k you're requesting,” I begged for my son to be freed, but it fell on deaf ears as the kidnappers only cared about the money.
"We don't care how you earn it. You have just four weeks to raise the funds. Failure to adhere, you'd be watching a live video of us slitting his throat with a dagger while we derive pleasure watching him bleed to death like a sacrificial lamb. Goodbye, ma'am!” He threatened and terminated the call.
Frustrated, devastated, and confused, I placed my hand above my head in lamentation.
“What do I do now? Where can I find the solution to this mess?”
"Seek no further for the solution is staring you in the face. Embrace it before it's too late,” answered Catherine.
"Alpha Marcus? That's a no no for me. Don't even think about it. Eww!” I shook my head to forbid going back to him for help.
"You act like you've got a choice.
Why jeopardize your son's life? I'll be next door if you need a shoulder to cry on,” she said and exited the living room. Shortly after she departed, someone knocked on my door.
“I wasn't expecting anyone. Who could that be?” I mumbled and rushed to open the door. Standing in front of me was a tall dark-haired, extremely handsome guy, heavily built with sexy blue eyes.
For a few seconds, I was dumbfounded, staring at his succulent lips.
Some parts of my body were yearning to have an exploration with this young man, but I bluntly asked those parts to comport themselves that this stranger might be an abductor.
The moment I saw him, I knew he was my potential second-chance mate.
"Hey, there. I'm Hugo. And I guess you're miss Madeline, right? I've got a piece of information that might interest you. Can I come in?” He asked bowing his head.
The man waved at me, who was completely engrossed in profound thought. His body produced a purring mechanism with his voice. Which has the power to seduce his potential mate.
“Yes, sure.” I welcomed Hugo and glanced at the entire neighborhood, to be certain he was alone. I had lost my trust in everyone.
"Any update on your missing son?” Hugo tossed the question at me, which raised some suspicion. With a move too fast, I grabbed his shirt.
“What the f**k do you know about his kidnap?”
