Elaine POV "You're choking me. I know nothing about his kidnap. I was passing by his school and saw two men come to pick him up. That's it! I swear. You gotta believe me. Fortunately, I took a photo of their vehicle's plate number should anything happen. Passing by the school this morning, I heard some students discussing their abduction.” Struggling to speak, Hugo explained. At that moment, I was on the verge of shifting forms and devouring his skin with my wolf claws before he hurriedly explained. “Why should I believe you?” Still gripping his shirt, I doubted him. My eyes were gradually turning red and scary like a beast. “I came with the photo evidence. If you could let go of me, I'll show you,” “Have you told anyone this aside from me?” "Of course not. You're the first person I'm telling this. I know how dangerous it is to trust people with this sensitive information. I'm not stupid to disclose to anyone.” "Good! So where's the evidence you brought?” I demanded. "Here we go. What do we do with it?” He showed me a photo from his phone. “We need to track the plate number. It might lead us to the abductors.” I suggested. "You're right. I've got a friend who might help us. He's trustworthy,” Hugo assured. "How long will it take?” Giving an impatient look, I asked. “24 hours I guess. I will show up at your place tomorrow to give an update,” “24 hours? Ah! Isn't that too much?” I screamed. "No, it isn't. I'll try my best to get it done before then," “That works. I'll wait. My son is worth it. I just hope the plate number will aid in getting my son back.” I said hopefully. “Yeah, I hope so too,” Hugo sighed as I saw him off. ************** The night was fast approaching as the dark clouds gradually encircled the earth's surface. “Oh, my little Austin. Come back to your mother. I miss you!” Holding his passport photograph, I fought back tears. I'm lonely, yet feels Austin's presence hovering around me. I wished he'd just walk home and dived straight into my arms, saying, “Mom, it was all a prank. I wasn't abducted.” After weeping for so long, I developed a swollen eye. But somehow, I was confident that Hugo would show up with positivity. Amidst my troubled soul, I forced myself to sleep. ************* It's a new Dawn. The day I have been yearning to hear from Hugo. “Oh, my son! He'll be late for school.” I screamed and rushed to Austin's's room to get him dressed for school. It took me a few minutes to realize he hadn't been rescued yet. I sobbed as tiny particles of tears rolled down my cheeks. I returned to my room to see a notification popping from my phone's screen. I grabbed the phone, looked at the text, and behold, it was my Boss Andros. “If you don't show up at the office this morning, kiss your job goodbye,” He said, hanging up the call almost immediately. "How do I explain to him my son was kidn*pped from school?” I muttered and sighed. I tried reaching out over the phone, but he wasn't responding or returning the calls. He was upset at me for skipping work the previous day without any notice. Now I'm faced with a dilemma of going to work or waiting for Hugo to show up with evidence that would help in finding my son. I wished I exchanged phone contact with him. “What if he shows up, and I'm not home? This job is my only source of raising funds for the ransom. I can't quit now.” With great determination, I had a quick bath and got dressed for work amidst the anxiety scrubbing my face. I was pretty sure of the backlash that awaited me in the office. Andros is most likely to strike me with a suspension. Pulling up to the parking lot, I remained glued to my car seat, gasping and unable to step out as many thoughts invaded my mind. “What if I get dismissed? What if he withholds my salary for this month? Now I have to start begging the same person I detest.” Placing my head on my car steering, l was exhausted. I hasn't gone in yet, but I has already seen the challenges that awaited me. Finally, I eradicated my anxiety and motioned into the institution. “Hey, girl. Why didn't you show up yesterday!” my colleague asked in excitement as she welcomed me. "I'd tell you about it once I settle in. Is Mr. Andros in?” She asked in a weak voice. "Of course, he is in. I could go tell him you're here.” “No, I'll do that myself. Thank you.” I refused, bracing up for the worst to happen as I entered his office. Immediately, I went on both knees, explaining my reason for skipping work the previous day. Focusing on his computer, Andros replied. “Go home! You've got 4 weeks to sort yourself. You'd still get paid. Good luck finding your son,” I remained on both knees, to be certain I heard him correctly. "I don't want to repeat myself. Now leave my office. Report to duty four weeks from now.” Andros reaffirmed, with a loud voice, discarding me. “Thank you so much. This means a lot to me,” I quickly stood up to leave before he might change his mind. He isn't always that nice, but whenever he does, he makes the best decision. Fortunately, I was opportuned to be at the right place and at the right time. Despite refusing his relationship advances, he was fair in his decision-making. He overlooked the rejection he got from me. A blessing in disguise for me, who never wanted to be at work. I saw this as a perfect opportunity to quickly rush home to receive Hugo when he shows up with the evidence. Hurriedly, I drove home, and to my surprise, he was already outside awaiting my presence. "Never thought you'd show up this early,” I teased Hugo, who maintained a straight face as though something was wrong. "What's wrong? Were you able to track the plate number? "I'm afraid, no. I wasn't. I guess they deactivated the plate number immediately after their operation. Those nuisances won't get away with this.” Hugo was so infuriated at himself for failing me. Just when he thought his heroics were already manifesting, he never knew the abductors had other plans. “So what do we do now? We can't fold our arms and let those kidnappers get away with this. They must be brought to book,” "Then we must seek help from Alpha Marcus. He's the only option I've got now.” I answered. "Alpha Marcus? Who's he? Are you sure he can rescue your son? Do you need a tag along? I want to help find your son,” Hugo asked, curious to know who Alpha Marcus was and why I had so much confidence in him. Barely 48 hours after meeting me, Hugo has proved to be a better mate and confidant. “Please give me a second. I need to go call Catherine, the woman living next door. She'll take us to see the Alpha,” I replied as I gestured to Catherine's apartment. Finally, I swallowed my ego to allow Alpha Marcus to help find my son, Austin. I couldn't deny the fact that Alpha Marcus was deemed fit for the job, but my hate for him shut my eyes to see the truth.
