21 TESSA It wasn’t as hard as I thought, tricking Enzo again. Not any more difficult than showing the owner of Saline my cocktail walk with an elevated tray in my right hand holding five full pints. Somehow, I made it across the room without spilling the glasses of India pale ale on the floor. “Not much of a waitress, but you’ll make up for it with that a*s of yours,” said the manager interviewing me. I owed my friend Tika a favor. She offered me a ride to my new job and pretended to take me to the movies. The club was close enough to Enzo’s fortress so that I could walk to his place after my shift and tell him she drove me home. It didn’t feel great to deceive him. But I knew his tendency towards overprotectiveness wouldn’t let me run an undercover operation to discover the workings
