They left the inside of the fun house with him stuck to the floor, on top of shattered glass cutting into his arms and back. Vanessa agreed to leave him on the spot—alive—for now. Until she got his knife back. The one she claimed was hers.
Why would Ayanne even leave? Why would she do it?
He struggled against this hold, screaming as loud as he could, hoping anyone would hear him.
There were loud footsteps pounding up the metal stairs outside.
“Toby?! Ayanne?!”
“Nora!” he called out. “Nora in here!”
The first thing he saw were Nora’s heavy black boots hitting the metal floor. “Toby!” She came down beside him, not touching him. “What is this? Why can’t you move?”
“Vanessa. She’s goddess or sorcerer or something. I don’t know.”
