Michael’s heartbeat thundered in his ears as he stared out the window, watching the shadow move closer. The figure crept through the trees, barely more than a blur in the darkness, but the intent was clear. They had been followed. He clenched his jaw, adrenaline pumping through his veins. “Luca, Aria, stay back,” he whispered, his voice low but firm. The creaking of the floorboards seemed deafening in the silence as they obeyed, moving further into the house. Michael’s mind raced.
