I grip at the edge of my seat as Mira turns the car into the school driveway. The headlights sweep across the tall iron gate of Crystal High, and just like I expected, a flashlight suddenly flicks on.
A man steps forward from the security post and raises his hand.
Stop.
Mira slams the brakes immediately. Then clutches at the steering wheel so tightly that her knuckles turn pale.
“Great,” she mutters through clenched teeth. “What the hell are we going to tell him?”
I lock my gaze on the security man as he approaches. “Leave it to me."
She scoffs. “Unless you suddenly developed superpowers I don't know about, Sara, I don't think we're taking down two grown men tonight.”
