Chapter 2
Emily couldn't believe what she was hearing. Was this man really asking her to marry him? And why did he seem so familiar, as if she had known him all her life?
As if sensing her confusion, the man took her by the hand and led her deeper into the forest. They walked for what seemed like hours, until they came to a clearing in the woods.
There, in the center of the clearing, stood a giant tree, its branches stretching towards the sky. The man led Emily to the foot of the tree and spoke in a language she didn't understand.
Suddenly, the ground began to shake, and Emily felt herself being lifted into the air. She looked down and saw that the roots of the tree were wrapping themselves around her legs, pulling her closer and closer to the trunk.
She screamed, but the man only smiled, his green eyes glowing in the moonlight.
"Trust me, my love," he said. "This is only the beginning."
