Boring Patrol

Aniu's steps slow and her body tenses. I can tell all her senses are alert. I shift my eyesight to that of a wolf so I can see better and, lo and behold, not too far off, there is a shifter on patrol in wolf form. Aniu looks at me and I just nod. We slowly track the shifter, making sure to stay far enough away that he won't catch our scent. When he meets with another shifter, Aniu signals for me to continue tracking the first wolf while she'll follow the second. I don't want to agree, but I know I have to. It's silly. I know Aniu could easily put down one patrol shifter without breaking a sweat, but every instinct in me still roared to protect her.
