I’ve been a nervous wreck all day. I don’t know what this meeting is supposed to be about. I’ve been trying to wrack my brain on what kind of request King Edward could have for Dante and I. Usually it was just my father scheduling our etiquette classes and telling us what meetings and dinners we had to show up to. Occasionally Queen Maryam would stop by to fuss over what we were wearing but that was it. We hardly ever actually had to interact with the King and Queen.
I decided to take a walk to try and clear my brain but after an hour of wandering around the neighborhood I decided to head back home and get ready for the meeting that was set to start in the next hour.
I had already blow dried and curled my hair this morning after my shower. Just like mother said, it did calm me down, until I had to get out. Being that I was already halfway done getting ready I decided to sit down at my vanity and get myself ready.
I decided to go with a light makeup look today. I put on a little foundation, powder, bronzer and blush before I moved onto the eyes. I ended up doing a light brown through my crease and a tiny shimmer of gold on my eyelids before finishing up with a small wing and mascara. For lips I just went with a gloss that matched my natural lip color perfectly.
I check the time on my phone before heading to my closet. It’s twelve thirty so I have just thirty minutes to get to my dad's office. I decided to go with a dark navy long sleeve velvet dress with a v neck that ends just above the knees. Although it’s just the first day of September, the air was a bit cold and the breeze made it chilly. I grab a pair of black strappy high heels and quickly put them on before grabbing a black cross body bag and heading out the door. I had one stop to make before the meeting.
I walk into the massive castle kitchen and ask Paul, our chef, for a tall pitcher with water and ice. It seems like an innocent enough request so he doesn’t protest and hands it over to me with a smile.
“Have a good day Evie” he says as I wave back at him before leaving the kitchen.
I make my way up those same steps I did last night and down the long corridor to the last door in the hall. Two of Dante’s maids are standing outside the door frantically whispering with each other. When they catch me approaching they quickly stop and stand up straight.
“Ms.Evie, how are you? Is there anything we can get for you dear?” The older maid says.
“Oh no, I’m fine. However I’m wondering if Prince Dante is up and ready to head down to the meeting?” When I finish my sentence they’ve both gone pale and look like they’ve seen a ghost.
They both start talking at once “ We’ve been trying for an hour now to get him up. Every time we try he groans and rolls over. The last time we tried he threw his entire breakfast tray across the room.
Just like I suspected. He’s still so drunk from the past few days he can’t even manage to get out of bed or be nice to his maids.
“I’ll handle it from here ladies, thank you.” I start to turn the door knob and go inside when I turn around. “On second thought, prepare Prince Dante’s clothes and gather up some towels.” I gesture towards the pitcher filled with ice cold water. “He’s going to need it.”
When I enter the room Dante’s face is buried in the pillow and it’s obvious he’s still asleep. The room is a mess just like his maids said. There’s bacon, eggs, muffins and orange juice all over the walls and the floor.
I walk over to the bed and kick his side with my heel. When he doesn’t move I kick him again but much harder this time.
“Ow! You mother fuckers!” He yells as he rolls over. “I told you bitches to leave me alone.” He roars.
He realizes finally when he opens his eyes who it was that woke him from his precious slumber.
“You.” He says with a grin on his face and looking me up and down from head to toe. “I told you that you’d be crawling into my bed.” He leans back in bed and starts patting it trying to get me to come over like I’m some kind of dog.
I lean in close enough that our lips are almost touching. I can tell he’s getting excited the way he’s wiggling around trying to get closer to me. Just when he’s about to grab my ass, I take the pitcher and dump it right over his head, soaking him and his bed completely.
He jumps and I can see his beast flash behind his eyes but I’m not scared of him.
“You b***h!” He blurts out. His maids come running in almost on cue. My guess is they had their ears pressed up against the door listening.
“Sorry, you smelled like you needed a bath and considering we have a meeting to be at in 10 minutes, I figured this was the quickest way to do it.” I let out with an evil smile on my face.
I head over to the door as his maids unsuccessfully try to dry Dante off. “Meetings in ten minutes, don’t be late.” I say before slamming his door shut.
I can hear his yelling and screaming all the way down the hallways. When I round the corner to head down the stairs I hear him throwing things around his room. What a great king he’ll make. He throws temper tantrums worse than a two year old does. Wonder what it’s going to be like when he has real power and doesn’t get his way. I shudder at the thought.
My father and I have been sitting in his office for twenty minutes now. Dante still hasn’t shown up and I can see my fathers anger and frustration building up in his face.
My father still refuses to look at me or respond to me. When I tried to greet him when I walked in he swiveled his chair around so it’s back was facing me and started fumbling around with some papers. So we’ve been sitting here in silence.
The other two councilmen were here as well but had other places to be and decided they weren’t going to wait around for his royal highness to show up. Can’t say I don’t blame them. I didn’t say anything about what happened this afternoon with Dante or where he’s been the past few days but I think knowing his past it wasn’t too hard for them to put two and two together to realize it was going to be a while for him to show up. If he did at all.
“I’m not sure he’s coming father, should we start without him or reschedule it for another time?” I say. The room has been so quiet for so long when I speak it sounds like I’m shouting.
“No. We’ll sit here as long as we have to for him to show up. The king has given me very strict orders and this meeting has to happen today. This issue is…” he says, running his hand down his face and sighing, “the issue is time sensitive so postponing this won’t work.”
I nod and lean back into my chair. I can tell my father is stressed out to the max. He looks like he hasn’t slept for days and looks like he may have lost weight. I’d offer to get him food but I know he’ll deny it. He’s a very proud man and won’t accept any kind of help even if it’s something as simple as making him a sandwich. I admire him for that but I know that whatever this meeting is about has really been taking a toll on him.
The longer I sit in this chair the more pissed off I become. I told Dante to be here on time and looking at the time on my phone, he’s thirty minutes late now. I don’t give a f**k if he doesn’t want to be here or have any duties. He doesn’t have a choice. If I have to show up then as the next king in line, he does too.
My father starts murmuring to himself while shuffling through the papers on his desk and occasionally jotting something down. I can’t quite make out what he’s saying but it’s definitely something along the lines of “arrogant asshole, wasting my time, future king my ass”.
Seeing my father so frustrated and angry only fuels my anger for Dante. “That’s it, I've had it.” I say as I jump up out of my chair and head to the door.
“Evie, where are you going? You can’t leave yet. The meeting—-“ he starts to say before I wave my hand and cut him short.
“I’m going to get Dante. Enough is enough and I’m not going to miss dinner with mom just because he’s a selfish little prick!” I say with that shrill voice I always seem to get when I’m mad.
I can hear my father putting up protests as I storm out of his office and head up the stairs. I don’t stop to listen to what he has to say because I am on a mission. I’m so pissed off my body feels hot and I can feel my beast stirring inside of me with the same anger I’m feeling.
I’ve been suppressing her lately trying to remain calm about all the events that have happened for the last week and a half but eventually she’s going to break free and there’s nothing I’ll do to be able to stop her.
I'm just outside Dante’s room when I hear his tv blaring with gunshots and explosions. What the hell? When I walk and the little prick is sitting on his bed in nothing but blue plaid pajama pants and a gaming headset on his head. He’s late to meet my father because he’s playing f*****g video games? And not very good either because his character has died three times since I walked in.
He doesn’t seem me coming because his eyes are glued to the TV. I walk over and in one quick steady motion I rip the headset off of him and grab him by the back of his neck and haul him up onto his feet.
“Wha—. Evie what the f**k are you doing? Let me go!” He yells at me while twisting and turning to get out of my grip.
He’s trying really hard and I’m shocked that he hasn’t freed himself yet considering he’s much taller and much stronger than I am.
I high tail it out of the room and down the stairs dragging Dante along with me. We pass his maids and a whole bunch of other castle staff and they all had the same shocked expression on their faces. The lycan prince is being pulled down by a woman, and isn’t able to get free. How embarrassing. Who’s the weak one now Dante?
The whole way he’s yelling and trying to pry my fingers off of his neck but my beast is so angry she’s using all of her energy and strength to help me hold onto him.
We reached my fathers office and before I could grab for the handle my father swung the door open. His eyes immediately go wide and then a small smile creeps across his face. I can tell he’s proud of me and that makes my heart feel so warm and fuzzy knowing I’ve done something to make him happy.
Dante is still putting up a fight but I drag him into the room and throw him down in a chair.
“There. Now we can start our meeting.” I say with so much attitude and a glare towards Dante that could kill.
