Chapter 10

“Yes, grandma, you don’t need to worry.” I replied with a smile etched on my face.

She patted my head. “You just look like Eva when she was young.”

I smiled at her comment, many people said that I was the exact copy of my grandma.

“Jenny, you need to be careful of all those relatives, they will find trouble for you.” Rita spoke, making me bewildered. Grandma held my hand to comfort me. “Other than me and my second son’s family, the rest all opposed your marriage. They will certainly give you a hard time.” Grandma spoke in a distressed tone.

“But why did they oppose it?” I asked.

“You know that Charles is currently the head of our corporation, so all the elders wanted him to get married to the daughter of the Lewis family in order to strengthen the business,” Rita answered.

OH…!

“I am sorry for putting you in this state.” Grandma stroked my hand.

“No! Be rest assured, I will handle it carefully.” I smiled, trying best to sound fine, but I knew what was waiting for me.

Ahh…where the hell is Charles?

Along the way, several thoughts revolved in my mind. Sigh!

After a while, the car stopped in front of the dress store.

“Jenny go inside, Selina must be waiting for you. We will get going,” Rita gently ushered.

“Ah…alright.” I bid them goodbye and went into the store.

“Hello mam, are you Jennifer hawking?” as soon as I entered, one of the staff asked questions.

“Yes.”

“Please wait for a while, Mrs. Selina will be here soon.”

“Okay!” i nodded. I looked around, feeling bored. As I wandered, I noticed that the style around these dresses was perfect.

“Jenny?” All of a sudden someone called out from behind. The voice sounded familiar. I immediately turned around.

"Mike!"

I was so excited that I dashed towards him but only to slip in the way. Oh god!

He quickly rushed to my aid and, apparently, I fell on his body. I was so embarrassed. I was about to get up when someone harshly grabbed my arm to pull me up. I smelled the familiar scent… Charles!

“What the hell was going on?” Charles ferociously questioned.

“I…I…slipped.” I murmured.

“Hey…leave her.” Mike rushed over to me. Charles held me tighter.

“Who are you?” Charles spoke in a dangerous tone, making me shiver.

“I am her boyfriend, so leave her now.” What!?

It was enough for Charles to be triggered that he punched Mike with such immense force. Sh*t!

I was so stunned that l didn’t even know when they started fighting. Security guards pulled them away. Only then did I notice their disfigured faces. The whole place was in a mess.

“What…what happened here?” I heard Selina’s shocked voice.

“Jenny…oh my god Charles, you!?” she walked towards me.

“Selina I…” before I could answer, Charles pulled me out, dropping the sentence, “I will compensate you,” to Selina.

I could hear Mike calling when Charles declared specifically to Mike, “and she is my wife!”

ROSE APARTMENT.

No sooner had I entered the room, he slammed my body on the wall. I winced in agony. This j*rk!

“You…!?” I was about to talk when he bit my lips. “Ahh…” I grimaced in pain. Wait, but why the hell did it sound like a…moan!?

I was completely dazed to notice the sprouting desire in his eyes. All of a sudden, he kissed me. Huh…!? I was overwhelmed with those unknown emotions. He kissed me with all his passion, as if pouring all the restrained desire of days into it.

Slowly, I got lost in the kiss. Only when his hands came in contact with my skin on my back that I came to my senses. I quickly pushed him away and dashed into the bedroom.

I feel in bed feeling frustrated.

How can you be such a fool, Jenny?!

I could still feel the warmth of his kiss. Involuntarily, I touched my lips. They felt so moist that my mind went back to that intimacy.

I heard a hard banging on the door. He went out. Maybe he is already regretting it!

Suddenly a teardrop fell from my eye, then some more and more. And just like that, I fell asleep while crying.

I woke to the ringing of the doorbell. I lazily got up from bed, but the ring of the bell didn’t stop. So impatient!

I promptly opened the door. Charles stood at the doorstep with a cold face and a few bags in his hand. My cheeks turned red, and I ignored looking into his eyes.

“Clothes, get ready.” He threw the bags at my side and went in.

After an hour, I got ready. I checked myself out in the mirror. The dress highlighted all my curves perfectly, making me look elegant. Even the fiery red color complimented my skin. I kept my hair open and applied dark red lipstick. Apparently, my eyes fell on the ring on my finger. I sighed. It looked dazzling!

At that moment, Charles knocked. As I opened the door, his eyes got stuck on me or probably on my beauty. He stared at my lips and I felt a chill run down my spine. I cleared my throat, getting his attention. He gave me a long glance before walking inside the bedroom.

I left the room to give him some privacy. I looked for some dry snacks to feed my stomach. At that point, I was starving.

After a while, he came out dressed in a suit, complimenting my dress. Not bad!

I felt the rush of heat in my cheeks, so I fleetingly looked down.

“Let’s go.”

“Wait a sec…let me take my handbag.”

I took over my purse not before having a quick touch up.

“Done?”

I indifferently nodded. Feeling annoyed that he didn’t even appreciate my looks. Hmm…idiot!

As we reached the mansion, my heartbeat rose. I was scared to witness all the drama that was about to begin.

As he parked the car, our eyes met. He noticed my distress.

“Relax, it will be fine.” He comforted me.

I smiled at him, but suddenly he came close to me and pecked my lips. Oh…!!

HAWKING MANSION.

“Good evening.” I greeted everyone present in the room.

“Hey Jenny, come here.” Grandma called out.

I gradually sat beside grandma. There weren’t any guests, just the family members, so I felt relieved.

“Wow sister-in-law, you look pretty!” Thia beamed, making me chuckle.

“You too.” I gushed at her.

“Charles!!” I heard a loud unfamiliar voice. A stunning woman rushed towards Charles, throwing her arms at him.

“I missed you so much,” she cried out.

“She is Anna Lewis,” grandma winked at me. I nodded in understanding. He gave her a small smile and went away. Her smile faded. Rita went up to greet her.

“Hey Anna.” “Aunty!”

I took care of the baby as Selina was getting ready for the day.

“I am sorry for all the chaos at your store.” I sincerely apologized to Selina.

“It wasn’t your fault and, by the way, Charles took care of it.” She spoke in a gentle manner.

“But I must say that Charles has a great sense of choosing clothes for females.”

“What do you mean?”

“The dress that you are wearing.

“It was chosen by Charles.”

“Yes!”

“No way! And what about my size?”

“Also, by him.”

“Now you are joking.”

“Of course not, lady.”

“…”

How come he knew my size? Maybe he just picked it up casually. Yeah, that must be the case!

“Come, we will get you ready.”

Selina spoke as soon as we entered.

“Me?”

“Yes, you are going to be the lead in today’s event, so you need to look the best.” Sarah chimed, picking up the compact powder.
