CHAPTER2

A BLACK WEDDING Athena’s POV Athena squares her shoulders as her gutsy increases with each passing second. When the door opens slowly to reveal her, her eyes sparkle with joy to reveal how pleased she looks when she catches the shocked expression on the guests face. Everything is perfect, except their faces seem to scream, 'Why is she wearing a black dress?' To make matters worse, the high slit on the left reveals the long expanse of her sexy legs, which is inappropriate for the church's ideals. But the smile on her lips enlarges as she catches Ares' blazing eyes which can devour her if it wasn't for the decorum expected within the church. The gasps of the guests as she waltz's down the aisle to the tune of 'here comes the bride' playing fuels her boldness. With each stride her black open toe stiletto is on full display. She vowed a month ago that if she has to marry someone because of her grandfather, then she's going to do it in style while mourning her grandfather. "What are you doing?" Ares questions, whispering through gritted teeth as she reaches the pulpit and stands opposite him. She ignores him and smiles at the priest who is as shocked as the congregation to proceed with the ceremony. A roar of laughter disrupts everyone's attention on Athena and instead it focuses on Ben, Ares' grandfather. "Athena dear, you look beautiful," he shouts so everyone hears. "Thank you, Grandpa Ben," she genuinely says. Her attention returns to Ares when she hears him mutter. "Damn that old man." "Can we proceed?" The priest asks not masking the annoyance in his tone. Athena catches a pop of vein at the side of the priest's temples, she draws in her lips for fear that she'll burst out in laughter. The ceremony proceeds as planned and when it gets to the crucial part, the ring bearer, a child who Athena doesn't recognize marches forward and presents the ring to them. They pick it up, holding it out as they each present their ring fingers to slide it in. They say their vows in repetition of the priest's words. "By the power vested in me by God, I now pronounce you, husband and wife," The priest announces, which alerts the congregation. The part that Athena dreads follows afterwards. "You may now kiss the bride," he states. Athena had meant for the kiss to be chaste, but when Ares draws her in, he slams his lips into hers, kissing her fervently like a starved animal. He bit on her lip, prodding her lips to part open like the red sea for his tongue to slide in. With all her might, she tries to prevent him, however when he bit hard, she opens her mouth due to the pain and in his tongue went. The priest coughs, which signals Ares that they are still in church. "That's what you get for crossing the line," he whispers softly in her ear and uses his thumb to wipe the smear of her red lipstick before letting her go. Although he creates some distance between them, Athena sees him smirking, and her eyes twitch from irritation. After they leave the church, the reception follows. ____ "Oh my, Athena, you look amazing in that dress," Three ladies her age surround her. Athena can clearly hear the sarcasm in the brunette's voice. She is in the toilet when they corner her. Athena can tell that they're bimbos. The jealousy laced in their pretentious sparkly eyes along with their wry smile which exposes that they're up to no good. Athena is aware that they gang up against her to make her feel small. "Oh my, thank you. I'm still in mourning, but it's a celebration either way," She attains a coy voice in a sing song manner, overemphasizing her hand movements in the process. The ladies stare at her as if she's crazy, before the red haired scoffs. "I mean, I did after all marry the most eligible and wealthy bachelor in all of New York City, right?" Athena boasts, giving them a jab to their jaws with her words. Immediately, their expressions reduce to a scowl. The blonde haired grunts, "Let's go ladies." "Little psychos," Athena says when they leave. She hurries to finish up with her business so she can get back to the reception. As she steps out she sees Ares leaning on the wall beside the toilet's door, "I'm sure that was fun for you," Ares chuckles. Her eyebrows crease, "Oh, it was," She answers walking past him. Ares follows behind, staring at her well defined ass. "I haven't been your wife for a day and I already have to deal with leeches," She shakes her head. "Why are you here?" Athena asks. "I was just wondering where my wife hid herself a few minutes to the sacred first dance," He says. "I'll have you know that I wasn't hiding. I simply needed to use the loo," She counters. He grabs her hand and walks ahead of her, dragging her along until she is struggling to keep up. "The couple of the day is finally here. Let's give it up for them as they assume their first dance," The MC announces. The guests softly clap and Athena who struggles to balance herself still has Ares pulling her to the dance floor. The moment they reach, he grabs her waist, making their bodies flush. "What is your problem?" She seethes. "You have no idea," He kisses her again. **** After the event ends, the ride back to Ares' mansion is silent, Athena for the record is exhausted, but the extensive space in the limo didn't seem to be enough between Ares and Athena. Immediately they reach the mansion, Ares jumps out of the car first, and Athena follows. She didn't have the capacity to embrace the beauty of the mansion, due to how sleepy she is. Once inside, Ares walks up a flight of stairs, and down several hallways. "So, where are we going to sleep?" Athena inquires with a yawn, since he finally stops. "We?" He snorts. "Athena, there's no we." With that statement, Athena's sleepy brain springs back to life. "What... what do you mean?" She folds her arms across her chest. "Exactly what I said, Athena. I thought you were smart," Ares says, and Athena scowls in reproach. He points toward the east side of the long hallway they stand in, "That is your room..." He then points to the west side, "and that is mine." "Why would we stay in separate rooms? Hello! We're supposed to be married," Athena states. "I don't know what you expected Athena..." He slowly advances towards her, and Athena sensing danger steps backwards. "…but this is an arranged marriage. I was merely pretending today..." He takes two steps forward, Athena repeats in the opposite direction. "I will never love you. So get that into your thick skull." Athena’s back meets with the wall, and he uses his hands to trap her. "In other words, I do not want to see you around me, ever. Is that clear?" Ares tone is laced with anger. Athena on the other hand gives all her strength to appearing strong. There is no way that she is going to let him see how much he hurt her. "Affirmative," Athena replies, but the hurt in her eyes shines brightly like the sun at noon. Ares backs away, "Good girl..." He begins to walk down to the west side of the hallway. "Goodnight, Athena."
