Ariana One year later. I stretched on the soft bed, my hand grazing the body beside me. The sunlight seeped through the white curtain covering the top-to-bottom window. My gaze settled on the wall clock, and I immediately sat up, letting out a curse as I jumped out of bed. The noise caused the man beside me to groan, waking him from his slumber. “Babe. Lucas. You didn't set the alarm? It's already nine.” I let out another string of curses as I removed my nightdress and replaced it with a towel, fully aware of the man on the bed watching me in amusement. He got out of bed, his naked form on full display as he walked toward me. “I don't see why you should be so concerned about the time you get to work when you're literally the business owner. Your employees should be worried about that, not you.” I smirked at his hard-on. “You want to try to sweet-talk me out of going to work again today, right?” I placed a finger on my chin, feigning contemplation. “What's the plan today? f**k my brains out on the kitchen table?” He grinned sweetly, a blush subtly gracing his cheeks. “How’d you know that was among the things I plan on doing to you today?” I let out a laugh. “Not today, babe. As much as I'd love to, I really have to go to work today.” I turned to the bathroom door. “I’ll be closing a business deal that'll take my company to the next level, and I have to be in the right headspace.” He gave a mock pout when I turned to look at him. “But you can help bathe me. Lord knows I need it after last night,” I suggested, a naughty grin appearing on my face before I disappeared into the bathroom with an eager Lucas following suit. **** “I look forward to working with you, sir. I promise that you won't regret it,” I said as I shook hands with the CEO of C&M Corp, Carley Watson, trying my best not to crush his fingers. Even though my werewolf instincts have been buried, my features as a shifter weren't. I was still ten times stronger than the average human. I still couldn't feel the cold humans sweat at when it's winter. I could still see in the dark and still smell other feelings. Although my senses were not as sharp as a year before, I was still physically better than them. “It's my pleasure,” Mr. Carley said, giving me a wide grin before leaving my office. I collapsed on the leather chair at my mahogany desk, breathing a sigh of relief. My company, Blackthorn Jewelry, was collaborating with one of the biggest jewelry-making companies in the states. That meant I was going to have my own line of jewelry. Excitement coursed through me. I immediately retrieved my phone from my purse and started texting my parents about the good news. “That's lovely, honey.” “Way to go, princess.” Those were both their responses, and I felt a surge of emotion going through me. “I wish you guys were here,” I texted back, even though I knew it was too risky for a werewolf family to stay in the human world. The door burst open before I could wait to see what they were both typing, and I let out a yelp, shocked at the intrusion. My gaze immediately went to the door, and my breath hitched. Intense blue eyes stared right back at my green ones. His mouth was in a scowl, dark circles were under his eyes, but he still managed to look as devilishly handsome as he always did the last time I saw him and also… in my dreams. My stupid heart thumped violently. What the hell was he doing here? Chloe, my personal assistant, burst from behind him, her chest heaving as she gasped for breath. “I-I'm sorry, m-ma'am. He was just really fast; there was no way for me to stop him.” She straightened her posture. “I'll call security.” Both our eyes were locked on each other, mine filled with surprise and his filled with… was that relief? “It's alright, Chloe. I'll handle him.” I sent a smile her way, ignoring the way my stomach melted as his gaze studied me. “Thank you.” She nodded before leaving my office, shutting the door as she did. “Alpha Kian, to what do I owe this pleasure? Please, have a seat.” I gestured to the brown fluffy couch in the middle of the office. He glanced at the couch before letting his gaze roam the entire office. His eyes took in every art piece, the furniture, the papers on my table, every damn thing. I almost scoffed. Typical werewolf behavior. When he didn't move from the spot, I said through a fake smile, “I don't have all day, Alpha. I have more important things to do.” He tilted his head, his intense eyes on me again. “Is whatever you want to do more important than talking to your mate?” I c****d a brow. What the hell is going on? “What the hell is going on?” I repeated out loud. “You rejected me, remember?” He strolled forward, his scent immediately hitting my nostrils, and I almost sighed with joy. Why did he smell so good? His nose twitched. “Who is the human I smell on you?” he asked as he sat on the couch, his legs spread out like he owned the place. Something like hurt flashed in his eyes before it disappeared, giving way to irritation. “It's none of your business. Back to my question: to what do I owe this pleasure?” I clasped my hands on the table, leaning forward. “It took me weeks to find you. I'm surprised you blended so well with the humans.” He leaned back, resting his head on the back of the couch while looking at me with hooded eyes, his dark inky hair falling over his forehead. “I'll take that as a compliment.” “It's not.” My lips formed a firm line. “Why are—” “I'm here to accept you as my mate and take you back home to be my Luna.” My eyes widened.
