Chapter 5Sukanya had walked through Tokyo for a long time in a daze, replaying the scenes in her mind. The drugs kept propelling her forward and made it hard to focus. It had gotten light, then dark. She sat on a bench outside a coffee shop for a long time, and in a park for a while, and then it got light again. She had no idea where she was. Tokyo never ended. Her legs and insides hurt, but the drugs kept pushing her forward, making her sweat. Tokyo’s clean, empty streets had no early morning noodle stalls, but the city had a lot of vending machines. She stopped in front of a tall, thin red one, and decided on what looked like tea. She slid in a bill and the bottle clunked down, along with the change, coin by coin.
