Chapter 47Sakaguchi and Hiroshi drove to the police hospital where most police went for serious medical issues, and where prisoners needing treatment could be watched.
On the way, Hiroshi called Ayana on Sakaguchi’s phone, but got no reply. She had been understanding when he’d stayed out all night before, but this was the longest ever he hadn’t even checked in. He left a message: “This is Sakaguchi’s phone. I lost mine swimming.” Her match in the kendo competition would start in the afternoon. Maybe she was getting ready.
Sakaguchi parked in the lot near Nakano Station and they signed in at the hospital entrance.
Hiroshi said, “I could use something to eat first.”
“Me, too,” Sakaguchi said. “There’s got to be a convenience store somewhere in the hospital.”
