Los Angeles

The United States was just as she had imagined it and as she had seen in so many movies. Everything was bigger and too much in some way. Los Angeles in particular seemed like the home of stars, luxury, and the good life. Carlo, he was driving focused and every now and then he glanced at her from the corner of his eye. He had always liked Italian girls. Exuberant, passionate and imaginative, except that she was the sister of his best friend and therefore untouchable like a sacred monster. Of course, if she had been a real monster it would have been much easier to stay away from her. Chiara, she wanted to be the man she loved. And not the cold and cynical Daniele he had become. But the sweet and virile one she had fallen in love with years before. When they got home, Carlo showed him around the house and pointed out his room. Chiara felt like a kid at an amusement park. He joined Carlo in the mega open-plan kitchen. -Do you want to talk??? -Depends -did it hurt you?? -Yes, I mean no. -ok, I'll serve you a Mojito At those words Carlo clenched his jaw, as if to say "I swear I'll smash his face in" -Did it hurt?? -Morally, not physically. Carlo hugged her instinctively. Too bad that hug lasted only a few seconds, because Carlo's phone rang continuously. -He's my father. What should I tell him if he asks me about you? Chiara looked anxious again. Tell him I'm here with you and to let my people know. "Hi, Dad" His father's alarmed voice immediately asked him if Chiara was with him. "Yes, Chiara is right in front of me" He gave her a knowing look. She smiled back and for a moment the world stopped, but then his father started bombarding him with questions like: "What happened? Why did she run away like that? How long does she plan to stay? Is she okay? Why didn't she tell her parents?" "She will stay as long as she wants to stay and don't bother her too," Carlo ordered curtly and ended the phone call. -Can you make me another one please? -Safe? -I'm holding up very well, don't worry, she reassured him. -I'll pour you another one, if you tell me what happened - Since Daniele decided to become a professor, there is only studying. I felt so alone and... -You betrayed him, he concluded confidently. -absolutely not! Damn, even just a f*****g caress would have been enough for me. -so, explain to me why you're avoiding yours too?? -They keep asking me when I'm getting married or if I'm pregnant. Too bad he hasn't even touched me by mistake for months. Carlo was shocked by the confession he had just made, and the first thing that came to mind was: "Daniele was either gay or impotent or the world president of the morons. Maybe all three at the same time." -I don't know, maybe it's normal after years together to have a decrease in desire. -I hope you're joking, Carlo stopped her immediately, There are couples who have been together for thirty years and still do it. Sure, not as often as in the beginning, but how can you live without it? That rhetorical question made his already sad face darken even more. -Who knows, maybe he has another one. -I would definitely rule that out, he stated confidently and she raised her head questioningly. -Why? Men cheat all the time and don't tell me you've never done it because I don't believe it. Maybe, or rather certainly, I am an atypical man, because on the subject of betrayal I think exactly like you. What is the point of committing yourself to one person if you then look for others? -Is that why you rule out that Daniele could have someone else? After a few seconds of thought, Carlo answered her. -For that and also because a normal man usually manages to satisfy both the woman and the lover, he said expertly. Come on, I can't believe that there was nothing more between you? -Let's say that..., It's as if I didn't exist. After three Mojitos and I don't know how many other drinks, Carlo and Chiara decided to get ready to go to the club where Carlo worked.
