THE CONSTABLE STRUGGLED to open his eyes. Pain pounded in his head with the force of ten drums when the lightning reached his pupils. He closed his eyes for a few more seconds, tightening his teeth and groaning. Then, he attempted to open his eyes again, but slowly this time. He gingerly touched the top of his head. His fingers encountered stickiness... His hair was matted with blood for sure. He tried to stand up and got dizzy. He needed more time than usual to understand what he needed to do.
