I knew he was there just after midnight. I didn’t hear the door. Frank never made noise when he moved. I only noticed when the mattress dipped and his weight settled behind me. I was still awake. I don't know if he knew that or assumed it or didn't care either way. "You should sleep," he said. "So should you." “Aren't you tired, baby girl.” “No,” I breathed. “Can I stay in your room tonight?” “Of course you can.” I answered him, sliding the blanket sheets back so he could climb in. He curled closer under the covers. I nuzzled my face into his neck, and he wrapped his arms around me. “I'm sorry about what I said earlier.” I sighed. “You’re right. I shouldn’t have doubted you.” “That’s not it. You are a grown woman and capable of making your own decisions. I should’ve trusted you.
