Chapter 18

The shower hadn’t been easy but needed, nonetheless. Once I had dried off and dressed myself, Jane had me set at the vanity in the room. Which I learned I had also been bought for me, and she brushed and styled my hair away from my face. She didn’t want it to bother my injuries. Once that was complete, she treated what she could of my wounds and promised they would heal perfectly. I, on the other hand, had a feeling I would have a nasty scar. The first few days at my new place of residence flew by. Despite the pain from my injuries, they were happy times. Jackson had left before I had woken the first day and had not returned. Jane told me that he had to fly out of the country on emergency business. I didn’t care as long as he wasn’t there. Claire was just as amazing as Jane. Her food was out of this world, and I was starting to put on a little weight. If life stayed like this, I would be happy. Jane brought her granddaughter Lizzy for me to meet to basically be my personal assistant, if I liked her. I of course, wondered what I would need a personal assistant for. At that point, Jane showed me the farm. I had mainly been indoors up until that point. To heal, Jane had said. It was beautiful, honestly breathtaking. The animals, the land, the sky, the fresh air. All of it was amazing. Jane explained that Jackson had made it clear that my orders were to be obeyed the same as his. She told me that Lizzy could help me learn about the farm as well as help me with anything I would like to change, add, or take away. I, of course, agreed without hesitation. This farm may be my salvation. The thing that kept me alive. In some ways it was. For a long time, I found peace through all the horrible times on the farm. It made me feel like something or maybe someone was depending on me other than myself. Lizzy taught me so much. She became almost like the friend I had craved before this happened. I knew her very existence depended on me. On me behaving as he had put it. I would as long as I could for her, Jane, and Claire. This was part of his plan. His way of making me do whatever he said. He wanted me to love these people. His people. He was right, I did.
