Letting out a frustrated cry, I shoved the fear clawing at my throat aside and swung the metal tube with all the force I had left. The lever jolted, barely, but enough. The tube clattered to the floor as I gripped the handle with both hands, ignoring the searing pain from my wounded palm. Gritting my teeth, I yanked it across. A hiss echoed through the corridor as the heavy door groaned to life. Relief surged in my chest.
