10- Jealousy
It’s been a couple of months since our first date and things have been going well in our relationship. We kept things quiet at school, but I’m about to change that today. I’m ready to stop hiding our relationship, especially since prom is next month and I don’t want any girls to think they have a chance with Caspian.
I decide to wear something comfortable since I’m about to change everything for myself. I place a pair of joggers and a tee on my bed and then take a shower and get ready for school. A few minutes later I’m dressed and walking out the house towards Jeanie’s car.
“Hey Sol, good morning.”
“Hey Jeanie” I state as I put on my seatbelt. Looking towards the back seat and let out the breath I didn’t realize I was holding.
“Are you looking for Cas?…he said that you asked him not to take the ride with us this morning…can I ask why?” She questioned curiously.
“Yeah…I did ask him not to take the ride with us today because I want to talk to you about something.”
“Okay, should I pull over somewhere so we can talk or do you want to keep heading to school?”
“No, you could keep driving, I’m just nervous…I decided to let Caspian’s and my relationship be known to everyone.”
She shrieks: “It’s about damn time.”
I laugh at her silliness: “I know it’s been a while, but you know why I can’t have extra attention on me.”
“I know it’s because of your powers, but don’t worry, I don’t think making your relationship known would cause anyone to find out about how strong your powers are.”
“I really hope it doesn’t Jeanie.”
“Listen, if on the off chance, people do find out and it causes a problem; we’re all here for you and we’ll have your back.”
“That’s the thing, I don’t want you guys to get hurt because of me.”
“We’re all pretty tough and strong on our own…anyone who tries to go against us would be crazy…besides, the choice is ours to make not yours….we all love you and we will be there for you even if you don’t want us to be.”
“Thank you, Jeanie, I love all of you also.”
“Awww, did you tell Cas?”
“No…I’m still trying to figure out how and when I’ll do it today.”
“Why did you pick today of all days?”
“Honestly, I just feel ready, even though I’m nervous about it…plus…I don’t want any girls trying to throw themselves at him because prom is next month.”
“Oh, that makes sense…this is perfect timing to make your claim on him known.”
I laugh: “he’s not a piece of land or property for me to claim, but yeah these girls need to know he’s not available.”
“I like this determined side of you, and I can’t wait to see his reaction.”
When we get to the school Jeanie parks her car next to Caspian’s. Cas is standing by the side of his car with his friends while looking in our direction.
I still can’t believe he chose to be with me instead of any other girl in this school, but I’m glad that he did.
Once we get out of the car and start walking to the school without saying a word to him he jogs up to us and puts his arms around Jeanie and my shoulders while his friends follow behind us.
“Hey ladies, are you really going to walk to the school without saying hi?” He asks playfully.
Jeanie and I shrug. “Ouch ladies that hurts my feelings” he states as he moves in front of us while walking backward with his hands over his heart, which makes us laugh.
“Come on guys let’s go” he states to his friends and begins walking ahead of us, once his friends join him he looks back at us, winks at me then turns back around and heads inside the school.
The day went by uneventfully and it’s now lunchtime.
Jeanie and I are sitting at our table and Cas is sitting at his usual spot.
Jeanie notices me looking at Caspian: “I guess it hasn’t happened yet” she states.
I shake my head no and as soon as Cas looks at me I call him over with my finger.
“Wait, is it happening now?” Asks Jeanie.
I ignore Jeanie and continue looking at a confused non-moving Caspian…After a few seconds, I move my head in a come over here gesture and he responds by mouthing “why” while still looking confused.
“Oh! it is happening now” states Jeanie excitedly.
“Why isn’t your cousin coming over here?”
“Maybe he’s just not sure that you truly want him to come to you…maybe text him?”
As soon as I grab my phone I get a text alert.
*****text convo*****
Cas - hey.
Me - hey, why didn’t you come over here?
Cas - I wasn’t sure if you really wanted me to.
Me - I was telling you to come over because I want you to silly.
Cas - but if I do, you know people will suspect something and I thought you didn’t want the attention?
Me - I didn’t but I’m ready to change that.
Cas - what do you mean?
Me - I’m ready for people to know that we’re together.
Cas - are you sure?
Me - why don’t you just come over here and find out!
*****End of text convo*****
I give Caspian a challenging look as I place my phone back in my pocket.
His look of confusion quickly changes to a look of determination. He then stands up and walks towards me slowly, he’s throwing off such a powerful aura that demands attention and almost everyone is now staring at him as he approaches my table.
Seconds later he smiles then whispers: “I have been wanting to do this for a while.”
Before I could respond his lips are on mine and his left hand is on the side of my face while his right hand is on the table. Our kiss begins to intensify but ends quickly once Jeanie clears her throat and whispers: “get a room” while laughing.
“Sorry, I got a little carried away” Cas responds as he sits next to me at my table wraps his arm around my waist, and places his chin on my shoulder.
After a few minutes pass all of Caspian’s friends come to our table and the rest of our lunch period goes by smoothly.
It’s now the end of school and I'm waiting for Caspian by my locker alone since he insisted on driving me home. Jeanie left as soon as the last bell rang because she was going to meet up with my cousin. It’s now been a few minutes and I’m wondering what’s taking Caspian so long, but as soon as I pull out my phone Tiffany appears in front of me and snatches it.
“You think you won don’t you Marisol?” She asks in an annoyed accusatory tone.
“I don’t know what you’re talking about Tiffany, now give me back my phone” I state while reaching for it but she jerks her hand back.
“You know exactly what I’m talking about…you think you’re going to be somebody now that Caspian is giving you a little bit of attention don’t you?, well guess what you will always be the outcast witch that came to our town. You’re nothing more than a weak little b***h that loves taking people’s seconds, trying to grasp at any bit of attention you can get” she accuses in a loud tone which gets everyone’s attention and they all gather around.
I knew some s**t like this would happen but I’ve had enough of her and since I’m being daring and taking chances today, I’m going to put this b***h in her place once and for all…here goes nothing….
I look her dead in the eyes and begin laughing.
“What’s so funny? I mean I know you’re funny to look at but why are you laughing psycho?” She asks clearly confused and annoyed.
“You really don’t know why I’m laughing dear Tiffany? (She shrugs in response)…I’m laughing at you…you actually think you’re some big shot here when in reality you aren’t. You get the guys to like you because you’re a big-ass slut! the people you think are your friends are only around you to make you think that they like you so you wouldn’t come after them, but you do anyway don’t you? you feed off of being a b***h and a bully and a slut because without those things you would be nothing.
Her face radiates with anger and she hands my phone to one of her fake friends and then steps closer to my face: “What the f**k did you just say Marisol?…you don’t know who the f**k you’re messing with.”
I begin to laugh once more when she raises her hand to slap me: “No Tiffany, it’s you that doesn’t know who you’re messing with” I state while making her hand stay in mid-air just inches from my face.
“What the hell, who's stopping me from hitting this b***h?” She questions everyone around us and they all respond by saying different variations of it’s not me.
Which causes me to laugh again.
“I’m the one that stopped your hand. There’s no way I’m going to let you ever put your hands on me or mistreat me in any way again.”
“Bullshit!, you don’t have powers, if you did they would be as weak as you are!” She responds.
“Would you like me to show you how weak I am?” I ask as I start to let the red and blue flames form on my palms which causes everyone to gasp in shock as Tiffany stares at me in envy.
Suddenly Caspian pushes through the crowd then pushes Tiffany back, snatches my phone from Tiffany’s wanna-be friend’s hand, puts an arm around my shoulder, and walks me towards the exit door without saying a word.
“You think you won this b***h? You didn’t, I’m not scared of you, you’ll get what’s coming to you!” Tiffany threatens angrily.
Moments after I’m seated in Cas's car and he drives; he decides to speak: “Sol, I’m not going to lie, that was hot, but not the smartest thing to do if you were still trying to hide your powers….Tiffany is a b***h and she won’t let anyone call her out without enacting some type of revenge.”
“I’m just tired of it all Cas….Jeanie told me that all of you would have my back regardless if I didn’t want you to because I don’t want any of you to get hurt so it solidified how I feel…. I’m done hiding Cas…I’m done hiding us and I’m done hiding who I truly am… living a life of hiding and lies sucked and I’m ready for whatever comes my way because of who I am.”
“Okay Sol, I’m here for you and so is everyone else…you won’t ever be able to stop any of us from helping you if you need or don’t need it.”
“So you thought I that was hot? I ask while giving him a cheesy smile.
He turns to me with a serious expression and then states: “yes, but we can’t stop anywhere so I can show you how hot I thought it was, we need to get you home and let everyone know what happened” which causes me to groan and him to laugh in response.
